Nitto DR ?

Do people still think that the nitto NT 555R DR will break stock axles? I am planning on building my rear up, but I wont have the money till around June to do it and I never been to the track to race yet, I want to go to the track to get practice before doing anymore mods and I was wondering if I could run some nitto DR. I would use the stock tires, but I am worried about the 1st - 2nd shift. I read that if you shift it hard that it can get scary with the stock tires. If I don't launch it hard do you guys think it would be safe to run them, I don’t plan to drag race too much till I get my rear end built, its just that I am getting itchy to race and don’t want to wait 3 months.

Thanks

Re: Nitto DR ?

My buddy has some on his mach but he really doesnt go to the track. Just uses them on the streets. I think they're okay as long as you're not doing any 5-6k RPM launches. But usually thats exactly what a lot of people launch at when drag racing. So i would say safe for the streets but i wouldnt risk my stock axles at the track without beefing up my rear end. Just my opinion though. Im sure you'll here others. Good luck.

Re: Nitto DR ?

They can break your stock axles. I ran the risk for a year with the stock axles and nittos. I probably had around 100 passes before i upgraded. If you dont launch to hard you should be fine. Just make sure you feather the clutch on the launch. Or you could go the cheap way and upgrade to 28spline moser axles and have no fear of snapping an axle.

^^^^^That is exactly what I am going to do very soon. There is nothing wrong with saving a little green, just more money that I can spend somewhere else.

Thumbs up Re: Nitto DR ?

I ran 315 Nitto DRs and the stock rearend for about 18 months with zero issues. No dragstrip launches, but plenty of spirited street driving. As mentioned, if you stay away from 4k rpm and hgher launches you will be fine.

Thumbs up Re: Nitto DR ?

I just had a buddy come over Saturday who works for SCT to try and check the tune and make a few adjustments. He couldnt get the programmer to work with the laptop, so he is working that problem out.
Honestly its just not worth making a pass if I am not 100% confident that tune is perfect. It rus great on the street in every situation, but until he runs the datalogger I will be hesitant to run it down the track. These Machs have no room for error with a blower.
