Rear Window Replacement/Delamination

My rear window has a very small delamination (about 1/8" X 1/4") way up in the drivers side top corner. The dealer is willing to replace the rear window under warrenty. I noticed it about a year ago. In that time it has only changed a tiny amount.

Has anyone else had this done? If so, is the risk worth it? I'm just not sure I want them taking everything off and possibly causing a leak or other cosmetic damage.

Any suggestions appreciated...

Re: Rear Window Replacement/Delamination

I also have had my rear window replaced under warranty. On my car the top corners on both driver' & passenger sides had what looked like aluminum foil at the very edge. Whenever I would wash the car, it would turn black and as soon as it dried, it would return to the silvery aluminum color.

They told me that becasue it was a factory defect, they had to replace it with a Ford back glass and not a aftermarket window (yeah...like I was going to take an aftermarket window ). Anyhow my car was at the dealer for a week while they shipped the replacement glass.

EDIT: BTW, they also told me that the delamination would continue and that replacing the glass was the only fix.

Re: Rear Window Replacement/Delamination

Mine was replaced for the same thing. And I was told it would keep getting worse. So, get it fixed before your warrantee expires.

Re: Rear Window Replacement/Delamination

Thanks for the replies.

Did any of you have problems with the work done? Did they do a good enough job that you can't tell it was done?

I realize that it still comes down to the installer but if all of you had good luck then I'm feeling better about it.

Best to all,

Bart ( Barry)

The only thing that bugged me a little was a tiny scuff mark on the sail panel next to the glass. It looked like they use a plier or something pull or hold the panel to get it off the car. The only reason I noticed it was because I was really looking hard around the glass to check for any problems.....but it's no biggie. Certainly nothing to take back to the dealer. Aside from that, the whole rear glass looks like a factory install.

Re: Rear Window Replacement/Delamination

I had no issues with the replacement. But, the dealership already knew I would be an a-hole if it wasn't done right.

Re: Rear Window Replacement/Delamination

I had mine replaced for it doing that. It was also leaking water into the back seat.
The dealer fixed it and did a good job. i have not had any problems since.

Re: Rear Window Replacement/Delamination

Mine was replaced about4 months ago. No problems.
You'll find that most, if not all glass repairs or replacements are done from an outside source, meaning they sub it out to a glass company.

Re: Rear Window Replacement/Delamination

I just looked at mine today and it has started in the both upper corners. Does it matter that the car had tint on it a one time? The tint is gone but there is still some sticky stuff at the very top of the back window.

No, the tint has nothing to do with it. The delamination is inside of the glass. The sticky residue is probably the adhesive from the window film. You can take it of with a razor blade, just be carefull with the defroster lines. Or you can use steel wool #000 to get the glue off.

Re: Rear Window Replacement/Delamination

Thanks San Pedro, if having the tint on there wasn't a problem I'll just leave the glue on the glass and have them replace the window. I'll post back when its done and let you know how it went Bart.

Re: Rear Window Replacement/Delamination

OK, I'm gonna have it done. It will be in a month or two when the weather is better. Right now we have about 5 inches of the white stuff on the ground.

Thanks to all that responded.

Best to all,
