Re: '69 mach 1 vs '03/'04 mach 1
Daily driver, taking long trips, running errands, etc. = '03/'04 Mach 1
Cruising the coast on a sunny week-end afternoon = '69 Mach 1 (although I'd rather have a '70...and make it with a 351C-4V & 4spd close-ratio Toploader ) Last edited by San Pedro Mach; 08-08-2005 at 06:55 PM. |

Depends on if you're talking about a 351ci or 428ci SCJ. I think the 428 SCJ might take a stock Mach but not with the stock tires. I believe it would be close. But even if the 03/04 did win and say it beat the 69 by 2 or 3 tenths that's not much for having 34 years worth of technological improvements behind it. |

i doubt the 428 mach could run a 13 in the quarter stock back in the day.

Re: '69 mach 1 vs '03/'04 mach 1
beautiful car but not the mach of today.i understand you have both and not so long ago i perferred older muscle cars to newer ones until i drove newer technology and realized the potential and the extreme difference in comparing both.ofcourse like you said there is a big gap in age but still technology has come a long way, here it is again for you 428=281 enough on that

I thought I read something a long time ago about a 428 that they took to the strip and threw some tires on it and it did bust some 13's. I could be mistaken. Maybe someone else has some figures. Be that as it may they're both great cars and I'll admit the 281 is incredible in some nice cool weather. |

Re: '69 mach 1 vs '03/'04 mach 1
Beautiful cars, used for 2 different reasons, IMO.
orangemachracer - if you only cared about speed, why not have a cobra? I dont' look at the mach for only speed. Although it is fast bone stock. I love the old stangs, so it is much more than that. My wife wanted a 69 with a 428 cobra jet R-code, but she wanted the "new technology" so she went crazy when the new one came out. Ones more for show, one is more for go. That's just my opinion though. SO, I am not voting.

Re: '69 mach 1 vs '03/'04 mach 1
I owned a 1970 428SCJ Mustang years ago and today own a 1970 351C-4V along with my 2003 Mach 1. If you take the “emotions” out of it and just think of them as cars, there is no choice. The newer Mach’s are better in every compartment stock for stock. I love my classic Mustangs but in power, comfort, and fuel economy…..I’m sorry but they come in 2nd place.
However when I’m driving my newer Mach; people see it as just a “car” or fancy Mustang, but when I’m driving my old Mach, people wave, blow their horn, give my thumbs up, and smile.

Re: '69 mach 1 vs '03/'04 mach 1
I've always been a sucker for beautiful ladies and beautiful cars. I've owned the '65 2+2 Fastback (289), '67 Shelby GT 500, '69 Mach 1 (351), '72 Mach 1 (351), and the '04 Mach 1. Each one holds a special place in my heart, but the '69 stole my heart when I was still playing with Hot Wheels cars, and owning it when coming of age was something special. Like someone else said, no one turns their head to look at my '04, but roll by in a classic...

Re: '69 mach 1 vs '03/'04 mach 1
If the question was "which would I rather have" my answer would have been different. With the amount of miles I put on the short comings of a '69 wouldn't bother me at all!

IMO - the 69 for show, the 04 for go. For the main reason of Car "shows". I know you can see new cars at shows, but the classics are more special. But that is my opinion. I love both. Which is why I thank the powers that be every day that my wife and I own our dream cars.

The 04 is just all the way better mileage and performance wise.

Re: '69 mach 1 vs '03/'04 mach 1
I also own both of these great cars and it is IMPOSSIBLE to compare them. If you only wanted pure speed then the '03/'04 would win...BUT if you only wanted speed you wouldn't buy the mach, you would get something faster. I feel the '69 Mach's have that perfect mix of speed and style that allow them to take the crown. The looks and comments that you get from driving a classic Mach is far and away better then those feelings that come from driving the new machs. Unless you have driven a '69 Mach around town today, then you have NO IDEA of the feeling that I am talking about.
