Trade in value???
Went looking at cars today just to have something to do. Just for grins, I asked what they would give me on a trade. My Azure blue Mach 1 with IUP and only 14,000 miles and in excellent condition would only get me $16,500. WOW, what a slap in the face.
I was not, and am not, in the market to get rid of it and have kind of been looking for a third vehicle that I would buy outright. I know the market is soft right now with all the dealing on new cars but I find that pretty **** low. Please tell me our cars are worth more than that.

Re: Trade in value???
yeah that's definately low. i know the trade in for an 04 with about 15,000 miles on it is right under $22,000 and then they retail right around $25,000. At least that's what it is in my state. But if you're in texas it should be somewhere in that price range too. Some dealers just try to get over.

Re: Trade in value???
Actually, for wholesale on an '03, that sounds very similar to what I was quoted by a Dearborn area dealer. Private party sales are another story, of course. Remember all those lovely rebates?? I believe this accounts for part of that. If not, got to love that Ford depreciation.

Re: Trade in value???
Actually, that sounds about right. The dealer is going to make money on the deal, so after checking the car out, detailing it, and paying commission, the profit on your car will be very slim if they sell it for $20k.
Keep in mind that with the deals that the factory are doing now, there is no wiggle room. It used to be that they could give you some more for your trade while keeping the price of the car you want to purchase up so that you could finance more. |

Re: Trade in value???
I am expecting to get about $18k for trade in which has about 24k miles. They haven't appraised the car but it seems like that is the going rate for my car.
Brand new about a year ago, you could buy our cars for around $21k. You have to love all those rebates because they will eventually backfire on you. Unless you keep the car for more than 5-7 years.

Re: Trade in value???
That's about right.
I traded my 03' with 14k miles on it last month. I was shopping for a Jeep Rubicon, and at least 5 different dealers offered me in the 16k-16.5k range. For shits and grins I went to a Ford dealer acting interested in a new 05' GT, and they offered me 16k. Hell I had it for sell on this forum, and a guy contacted me wanting to buy mine for 20k, but I got back to him late. He bought an 03' with like 20k miles for 17.5k. I wound up buying an 04' Rubicon that was stickered 22k. I gave them my Mach and 2600.00.

Re: Trade in value???
thats about right for what a dealer is gonna tell you but not what they will give you... its part of the trade process to offer as low as possible to increase profit. i know at my dealership they would often offer 2 sometimes 3 thousand less than actual market value, and theyre always gonna feed you the bs of what theyre buyer will pay and what they have to do to it.. but the fact is those expenses are not high and second theyre gonna mark that up on the back side as well.. so if you got 16 they would sell to a 3rd party for about 18 or 19 and they would sell it for around 21-23. and if they kept it without unloading it to a third party they would sell it themselves for 21-23k

Re: Trade in value???
I did a search on Carmax and all of their Mach 1s are $24k. But most dealers will only give me $19k.

Re: Trade in value???
I work at a large Ford/SVT dealer in the NW. We recently took an 04 Mach 1 in on trade that we sold new and serviced regularly in our shop. 47K miles and we still paid $18K for it. Sold it in just a couple of days for a little over $20K.

Re: Trade in value???
Five Oh B,
Good to hear from you again...what led you guys to pay 18K? Was the model year a factor? Also, how was the paint looking on that car on the hood and ront bumper cover?

Re: Trade in value???
Was quoted $15-16K for my 03 Mach1 with 14,0000 miles on it and about 4,500K in mods. Sold it privately for $21,000...I felt good and Steve got a real good car for a decent price back in February.

So exactly how does that work? They tell you that they will give you 16k, and then when the paperwork prints out, it just happens to have 19k on it without them telling you about? I understand that they have to make a profit. They had the car for sell for 19.9k on their website next week. They would have probably let it go in the 18k range no quesitons asked.

Re: Trade in value???
In Colorado they do sell for about $25-$27 for 04 Mach 1's. It all depends on the state! We just got a great deal on our Mach 1, $22,400 with only 6,500 miles on it. who hoo... But in this area, everyones been shocked on how little we paid for it.

Re: Trade in value???
We couldnt find an 03 Cobra clean. The only one we found was not in great condition, had a lot of miles, needed new exhuast and was $26,000. Gotta rememeber, cost of living in Colorado is a lot higher. The only real good shape cobra we found was over $32,0000.

Re: Trade in value???
In So Cal, the trade-in value for a 2003 Mach, manual, with 19,000 miles is $17,900 per KBB.com. The private party value for the same car is $20,638. This is in "Excellent Condition." Keep in mind that dealers never use "Excellent Condition" and use "Good Condition." This ups the gross per unit, and also allows for any prep for the car before resale.
