DONT DRILL THE FRONT BUMPER ..I got a solution

OK this is my idea dont let the dealer drill the front bumper cover on the car

I am going to get some VELCRO and see how that works
the worst it can do is leave a little adheasive on the bumper

I think it is secure enuff to hold the plate on even at highway speed

Should work. You figure a tag is 6 x 12 thats plenty of space to put the velcro. Or if we could find some of the good 3M double sided tape like they use under the trim now days.

Dont recommend the cheap stuff at the discount store.

There is some also thats used in the radio control models thats black, and its nice. It removes real well should you decide to take it off.

The velcro scares me.....you have no idea how many
headlight blackouts went airborn off my Camaro at
about 85-90 MPH!!! Velcro isn't THAT strong. Be
careful. I would hate to see a license plate fly up and
smack the hood or roof!

Yea but I bet your blackouts only have a few little squares of velcro to hold them on.

Imagine how much velcro you can put on a 12x6 tag.

You might be hard pressed to remove it after you put it on.

I am now thinking of 2x sided tape or the trim tape,
the world needs 2 sided duct tape but how would you ever
get it off the roll?

thanks anyway....

By the time you have enough velcro, tape or whatever to support the load that plate is going to take at speeds; you'll have a mess.
The holes are going to be less of an eye soar than velcro and adhesive residues that will deface your fascia. I'd like to unscrew the plate, take pictures, wash or wax it without worrying what is behind the plate.

Use 3M's D/F VHB Tape.

Double Face, Very High Bond Tape

This Tape is sold in Sign Supply stores or Art Stores. We use this in the Graphic Art Industry!

I am thing about using a seriously strong magnet on the other side of the bumper and coating the back of the plate with a non abrasive surface. with a little more time I may be able to engineer it so that when the vehicle is running it can be swithced to and electro-magnet garunteed not to release that plate at highway speed.

Other electronics will be mounted in my bumper to deter any unwanted waves or lazers from being bounced off of my vehicle as well.

good idea

Woodchuck, good idea about the no abrasive coating for the license plate! What are you going to use? Do you think the 3m undercoating would work? Please post pics when you get the laser diffuser mounted. MMFF had a good article on it in the January issue.

34Ford,

The stuff used on R/C models is called servo tape, and yes, it's strong as hell. It comes off by rolling it, and it doesn't leave residue, I don't know if it's safe for paint though... even though it is plastic safe. It can be rather expensive depending on the shop you get it from.

Talking Do what dealers do

I guess one could get one of those backplates with the four
long springs with hooks at the end. Attach your licence plate
to the backplate (like dealers do with their dealer's plates),
and hook the springs to the grill on the top and to the chin
spoiler on the bottom.

Don't worry, no one will laugh at you since you managed to
not ruin the appearance of your Mach by drilling into the bumper.
