IRS cost

do someone have a link to a thread or anything about the cost of doing a IRS.
I was thinking of doing one for my 98 Cobra, but never really looked into and figure it would make the ride a lot better. I'm just curious about what the average cost is, when finding a good used IRS from a Cobra. Thanks

ASh

Re: IRS cost

The cost will vary a lot depending on what you go with. Some people are willing to trade straight up from a 99-04 Cobra - most are not though. If you're looking to supe it up with mods, then the price starts going up more (bushings, differential cover, etc). So it can range anywhere between $0 and $5000. I think by the time I was done with mine in the Mach, I probably had $2500-3000 in it after bushings, gears, random labor costs.

I will say this, after dealing with the IRS in my Mach - if I ever get another New Edge Mustang, I'll just build the SRA. The IRS is awesome but maintaining it is such a *****. Everything requires you to drop the assembly. Differential leak? Drop the IRS. Gotta change fluid? Probably drop the IRS. Change fuel filter? Drop the IRS. It is just such a hassle to deal with and troubleshoot. That's just my opinion after dealing with a lot of troubles with it. Could never quite get it to quit leaking and had to drop the center-section like half a dozen times.

But then again.........

and more specific to you.......

Re: IRS cost

thanks for sharing, man that cobra looks sexy
I believe that from what others have said and from reading,
it will be best to just stay with the SRA,
to be honest it rides really good right now,
I would rather spend that money on a KB 2.1L which is right at $4K for the whole kit at 6psi.
I'm not planning on going crazy with suspension on this one, replace bushings and other parts when they wear out.

Re: IRS cost

The rear axle in the 98 are not as wide as the 99 and up so finding someone to trade probably will not happen

Re: IRS cost

Prolly the one mod I still kick myself a little for not doing over a built SRA. But the cost of the bushings alone is comforting that I made the right choice. Finding replacement parts for those as the years go on isn't gonna be fun.

I've seen complete assemblies from 1500-2000. The 03-04 cobra rears.

That makes since, since the rear tires really need wheel spacers to get the tire to the fender.
A best friend of mine is going to let me borrow his black 17x9/ 17x10.5 mach 1 rims. so will be curious with the 17x10.5 in the rear if I would still need the wheel spacer. Will find out at the end of Dec. He does not have a mach any more and so they are just sitting in storage. I got to wait till I make a few hour trip back home, before I'm able to grab them from him.

That is the problem with "as the years go" Ford doesn't have stuff as much and so then the key is finding it.
I believe I'm just staying with SRA and call it a day.
