Anyone running 255/45ZR17 G-FORCE SPORT COMP-2 on stock rims?

So I'm in an odd spot - the mach is a secondary car but I've still got the original tires and am at 31k miles. The stock tires are pretty much done and I'm sure they've dry rotted. I'd really like to buy some CCWs and the supporting suspension mods but that's a little out of my price range right now...

To keep things on the cheap for now I'd like to replace the tires with something nicer so the car is back to being driveable... Tirerack is quoting me just under $500 for now on the 255/45ZR17 G-FORCE SPORT COMP-2 which seems reasonable. Is that a decent upgrade on the stock rims?

I've ran them on my old mach and currently run them on my 13' 5.0 I can't complain about them. Wet or dry, they work flawlessly. Great all around traction for me.

Cool - any idea if the the 45 sidewall look way different with the 255 width?

Re: Anyone running 255/45ZR17 G-FORCE SPORT COMP-2 on stock rims?

I have 275/40ZR17 g-force sport comp 2's all around on my 17 x 9's. i think they are a pretty good tire, especially for the price. They do better in colder weather than I thought they would. The only thing I didn't care for is the rounder shaped sidewall they have compared to Goodyear tires I had previously. These seemed to stick out a bit more over the wheel. Nothing terrible, but just a bit more than the Goodyear's. You might see if you can have them put one on to make sure you like the look before they do them all. 255 is wider than what the stock size was for 17x8's.

I figured a 255 might be a slight upgrade over the stock without going overboard on width... I've seen a lot of varying opinions on 275s on stock and that seemed to be pushing it. I can get a set at my local tire place cheaper than tire rack so I'm considering it.

I run the Comp-2s on the stock rims on my Mach. 245-45ZR17's on the front and 27540ZR17's on the rear. I'm quite happy with the tires. Good traction, good rain performance.

Re: Anyone running 255/45ZR17 G-FORCE SPORT COMP-2 on stock rims?

I've ran the G-forces and loved them. Granted I ran 275/40's. Only reason that I did is that I got a killer deal at a local place. I loved the look with spacers on the rear but wouldn't run that wide again because of the uneven wear. But to answer your question, the 255 is something I think you'd be happy with.

Cool thanks guys!

Is there anything else in this price range that's comparable?

Yea I heard all kinds of opinions too. Even the guys at the tire store whispered among themselves that it wouldnt work.

I talked with Draper about his setup before I bought mine. I love it.

Car is more neutral now when going into turns. They bulge a little but probably only noticeable to me bc I was told they would bulge too much.

I never cheap out on my tires on anything I own. Most of the time anything cheap and you are just cheating yourself. 6 months from now $50-$100 isnt going to matter and you will be glad you spent it.

I have these tires in 265/40/18's for my front wheels. I'm pretty happy with them overall. Have plenty of bite for the little bit of playing I do on the street. For sure in another class over the factory goodyears.

I'm running 255-45-17 on two Bullitts. They fit fine. They're about 1/2 taller than stock. Mph will be off 1-2 mph. One set has 25k and the other set has 2k. Buy them.

I don't have those tires, but FWIW, I have been running 275s on the stock rims for quite some time now... honestly, longer than I can remember... no issues at all.

I wonder if I should go with a 40 sidewall to make closer to stock tire height?

Check out Discount Tire Direct, they have a good selection of stock size tires. I've been using them for years and have been happy with their prices and delivery.

http://www.discounttiredirect.com/di...=prca&fqs=true

It looks like alot of them come with a $75 Visa precard, mail in rebate too.

It won't be closer.

245-45-17 is 25.7"

255-40-17 is 25.0"

255-45-17 is 26.0"

Here are two pics of my cars with 255-45-17. Look closely and then imagine a tire 1" shorter.

Both cars are stock suspension.

Actually just ordered for install on Thursday at a nearby discount tire. They don't advertise the BF Goodrich $75 card as well but it was confirmed when I called! So with the card factored in they end up at $570!

Thank you so much for the pictures! I decided the 45 height and am glad I did based on the height numbers you provided! Thanks man!

These should hold me over until I can grab some much larger CCWs... Not bad when you factor in the rebate. I ended up at about $570 out the door:

firebird1999us, Do you have any pics with the 255/45r17's on your car? I have the same color Mach, all stock and thinking of running that same tire and size. Just curious how it looks.

Bullitt sits 1/4" lower than a Mach 1.

Both cars have the same brand and size tire. No mods.
