Replaced battery, horn will not turn off
So my car has been sitting for a year plus. Decided to get it in running condition.
First step is to replace the battery. Got the old one out and the new one in, as soon as I touch the red terminal the horn goes off and will not turn off no matter how much I push the buttons on the key FOB, turn the key in the ignition, or hit the lock/unlock door buttons inside the door. Only thing I can do is disconnect the battery. Changing the oil is about as in depth as I get mechanically, so I don't have much an idea where to stop troubleshooting.

Re: Replaced battery, horn will not turn off
Is this on a mustang or another car? Have you mess with the airbag on the wheel at all? I had a similar thing happen to me when i changed my clockspring and overtightened the airbag/horn it would just stay on until i adjusted it better

Re: Replaced battery, horn will not turn off
Is the horn in a solid 'honk' or is it the alarm 'Honk' - 'Pause' - 'Honk'? If solid, try repeatedly pressing the horn on the steering wheel. Maybe the contacts are stuck.
common for the clock spring to fail; I have already replaced mine. Took about an 1.5 hours; but I was just casually working. It can be done much faster. Need a steering wheel puller and basic hand tools. I first watched a youtube video.

cars are like women when you don't pay attention to them for too long -
they both get a little pissy when you finally get around to taking them out for some fun. |
