Racing seats
Is it just me, or does anyone else feel like you are sitting up high on the factory Mach 1 seats? I don't recall feeling this way when I owned my 2004 Mach 1. Perhaps it's just that I'm use to my other cars over the past several years?
Has anyone changed out their seats for a racing seat like a Corbeau, or any of the knock offs offered by Late Model Restoration or American Muscle?

Re: Racing seats
I have a single Kirkey seat with Racecraft brackets. The brackets are very nice for adjustment of positions but the seats themselves aren't really built for comfort. I keep the stock passenger seat in the car and remove it at the track. The single Kirkey seat with brackets is about 20 lbs. compared to the pair of stock seats at almost 90 lbs.
A little off topic but just trying to break down the weight savings. |

Re: Racing seats
I'll prob be putting Corbeau LG1's in mine this year. I was going to hold off but I bought a Focus ST3 as a new DD couple months back and I cannot stand the seats in my Mach anymore.... Those factory Recaros are killer and now im spoiled.

Re: Racing seats
agree...if you drive a lot dont put "race" seats in.....Mine is pretty much a track and weekend car now...actually more of a track car than anything else...doubt it will see any street time again...

Re: Racing seats
Thanks for the replies, I appreciate the input.
I'm not looking for a "real" race seat, but more of a sport seat, like others have posted they have. But most of them are billed as racing seats. I'm going to order the red on black American Muscle brand seats http://www.americanmuscle.com/am-rac...black-red.html. They should go really good with my torch red car. I had the red on black Corbeau LG1's in my 2005 Mustang and the "leatherette" wear watches on the kidney bolsters wore out really fast.

Re: Racing seats
Same here, and I'm 5'-11". Plus the Mach seats are really flat with no side support. Heck, my new Fusion seats are better. But again, the Mach is 12 years old and things have changed alot over those years.

Re: Racing seats
I also have the fx1 pro's. I'm 6, 190ish, It's tight, but in a good way! I drove it on multiple 1000 miles road trips, even if you wanted to fall asleep in the seat... You can't!! Which is also good.

Re: Racing seats
You just need to "fill" the seats lol. How do the aftermarket seats feel as far as comfort? Can "round" peeps fit in them okay? The Mach seats are the most comfortable seats I've ever had in a Mustang. The 2015's were outstanding when I test drove one. I've never driven in an S197, so I can't compare with those. I would like to sit lower, but not if I lose the comfort.

Re: Racing seats
The Mach seats are comfortable. I've driven 8 and 10 hour trips and felt fine. I just wish I could lower the stock seats a inch or two.

Re: Racing seats
I put in the Corbeau RRX seats with the locking sliders from Corbeau - they aren't as cushy as stock but seem pretty comfortable and definitely a lot more support. 1 noticeable change is that the seat curves forwards a bit at your shoulders - which is fine for your racing posture but I'm not sure would be comfortable for sitting in for more than 1-2 hours at a time. But, then again, maybe you would get used to it and find it better if you were to DD the seats.

Re: Racing seats
I got the seats today
Ends up these seats from American Muscle are made by Corbeau, even though it doesn't have the Corbeau name on them. I thought it was strange that the tracking info said the seats were coming from Utah, where Corbeau is located. I looked on the shipping label on the box and it has Corbeau's address, but has American Muscle as the company. And the seat brackets are from Corbeau too. Can't beat that, $600 for unbranded Corbeau seats!

Re: Racing seats
I installed the seats today and man, do they feel snug and firm. And the seating height is perfect. I removed the factory harness from the drivers seat and reconnected the seat buckle plug so the seat belt reminder wouldn't stay on.
While I was at it, I removed the instrument cluster to clean it up and removed the air bag light. Don't know if the light would have stayed on, but when I replaced the seats in my 2005 Mustang, it did. I just noticed the color of the seats look goofy in the pics, I had the flash turned off so that must have messed with the camera settings.

Re: Racing seats
Very cool!
With the Mach's the Air Bag light and seat belt light don't stay on. I didn't do anything with mine and they aren't on. I have a harness bar and 5 pt. harness but also kept the stock belt for cruising around - no lights or sounds when I'm not using the factory belt.

Re: Racing seats
Feel like you're sitting high in the Mach 1 compared to what? An F-150? A Lotus? A go-kart? I drove my Mach 1 last night and went directly into my S197. My GT is dropped 1" on FRPP springs and I felt like I was sitting on phone books.

Re: Racing seats
I felt like I was sitting high in the seat itself. These Corbeaus offer a lower seating position inside the car.
