Wits End With This Rear End!

Still having a lot of trouble getting my car running again from my curb clipping back in October. Long story short, the corner of a curb blew out my right side tires, wheels, axle, brake caliper, rotor, and rack and pinion. I have installed the following:

-Moser 28 spline axles

-Axle bearings and seals

-10 ARP wheel studs

-Refurbished right rear caliper & bracket

-new right rear rotor

-Two new AFS 18X9 Mach 1 replicas

The latest problem:

The right rear caliper is sitting to the right (out) too far. So the inner pad is completely up against the rotor and dragging hard. Couple times around the block and even the wheel is too hot to touch! The outer pad has one to two mm of clearance. The brakes also seem to be a little spongy/soft. YES, I have screwed the piston all the way in with the bleeder valve open. YES, I have made sure the inner pad seated fully into the piston's cutout. YES, I made sure I got a Mach 1 caliper and bracket.

How is this possible? The axles and seals went in just fine. As soon as I go to tighten the caliper up it just locks up the right side. Is it possible I got an axle that was too short? I compared both Mosers to the left OE axle that came out of the car at the time of the swap. They were the same length. Haven't done any precise measuring but the axle tube does not seem to be bent and the plate the brake bolts up to is still square to the axle tube. Thoughts?? I will pick out the best pictures of all I took and upload them shortly.

*Additional note. Problem was the same with Brembo rotor I had that cracked from the hit.

Cool Re: Wits End With This Rear End!

Its a shimming problem to get the alignment right.

Exactly, had to do the same thing. Moser axle flanges run thicker.

If that's the case, that's a huge relief. What is it I need to shim? The rotor? Shimming the caliper will only make it worse.

Re: Wits End With This Rear End!

You need 2 washers, between the moan bracket and the caliber bracket. It's an issue with the a/m axles.

Re: Wits End With This Rear End!

I had the same issue with Ford Racing axles I put in. But in my situation, both calipers were hitting the rotors. I didn't have any impact to the rear.
Went to a Moser and have no issues. A shim will fix it.

Re: Wits End With This Rear End!

It may not be easy to see in the pictures, but let me clarify. If I use a shim between the caliper bracket and moan bracket, this will make the problem worse.

Yesterday, we took a Dremel with a cutting wheel to the mounting holes. Took off 1.5mm and measured with my digital calipers. This made everything fit MUCH better. It turns out the caliper is bad. One touch of the brakes and the caliper locks up completely. Hopefully Advance Auto will let me switch it out.
