Help me identify cams.

Hey guys I was wondering if you can help me identify a set of cams I have. I was told that they were out of a 98 cobra but I know that's not correct because the part numbers don't match. When I search I find mixed things online, either 01 cobra or 98 mark8.
Pn are yf3e 6a271 bb and 6a270bb
Also have the gears and bolts attatched so I can measure them if they vary from year.
The part number does not look stamped, it looks hand written, is this normal
Thanks

Re: Help me identify cams.

That thread has contradicting info too, it says 01 cobra, then it says mark 8.

Re: Help me identify cams.

I talked to the guy I got them from and he said 100% sure the motor came out of a 98 cobra. It had 9000 miles, he didn't know what all was done to it as he just wanted the block. I know he's no just yanking my chain because he said if they are not going to work he'll take them back. I have found a bunch more stuff online that says 01 cobra, and then some stuff that says not. Is there anything I could measure on them to differentiate them? Anyone to call?
Thanks,
Dan

I think the 98 Cobra intake cams have one lobe bigger than the other. The bigger lobe is for when the IMRC opens.

Check my sticky in the engine section. I've got the part numbers and ways to identify them in the first post.

Re: Help me identify cams.

I took them apart and took some pictures, now I just have to figure out how to post them, I looked through that thread and didn't see 99-01 part numbers, but measured the bolts and they are 10mm. I don't know enough about these to decider some of the other stuff talked about.

Re: Help me identify cams.

Ahh. Thought they were 96-98 cams. I don't have the part number for the 01s.

You have to host the pics on an external site and link them.

Re: Help me identify cams.

According to NASVT's cam sticky here at M1R

2001 Cobra
Int: 200 deg @.050/.39x” lift Right Int YF3E-6A270 Left Int YF3Z 6A271

Are they both YF3E or is the other YF3Z?

If it's a Z they are 01 Cobra. They are the same numbers my 01 cams have.

Re: Help me identify cams.

The 10mm bolt tells you that they are 01+ cams. The part numbers indicate:

yf3e 6a270bb = 01 Cobra Right Intake Cam
yf3e 6a271bb = 01 Cobra Left Intake Cam

Only a couple degrees difference in duration so 01 Cams wont run any different than 96 -98's. I wouldn't worry about looking for 98's.

EDIT: Fixed cam ID

Re: Help me identify cams.

Thanks for the reply! He gave me the set of 4 with the gears on them and the exhaust( or do I though ) is pictured above. The part numbers for them are
Yf3e 6a272 ab
And
Yf3e 6a273 ab

Re: Help me identify cams.

I fixed my post because I messed up your cam ID. yf3e 6a270bb and yf3e 6a271bb are both intake cams.

Re: Help me identify cams.

Thanks! Obviously was interested in the small increase in hp, but the added rpm is what really made me want these.
