running coilovers on our cars?

still kicking ideas around. The thought of going coil over in the front has crossed my mind but Ive also seen it mentioned a few times that our strut towers were not designed to carry the weight of the car like that and could fatigue things over time.

Any thoughts on the subject?

Re: running coilovers on our cars?

Loved mine, I ran strange struts. Until I broke one of the springs. Buy a quality kit (not UPR like me it was plastic), and don't run strange struts unless you have the right caster camber plates because they are noisy. I ran them with the stock K member. Ride height adjustability sure is nice.

haha, part of me thinks perhaps I should be insulted

if I do go that route it would likely be the MM stuff, although Ive also seen some posts about wheel/tire clearance issues so need to look into that stuff also

Re: running coilovers on our cars?

Go with MM and don't look back. Keep in mind, those CC plates help out a lot in supporting the load. They're quite hefty plates. I've got their kit up front and I have no concerns about it.

lol i didnt mean it like that at all! I've seen lots of dedicated road race cars with coilover and a lot of spring rate that get abused for long periods of time. cars that have been racecars for years and have never had an issue.

ive also seen drag car that hang the wheels 3 feet in the air every run and they have no problem... my comment was based on you never abusing your car to that extreme

Using the word "run" is a stretch lol, only kidding Darrell, other than adjustability what is the benefits to run front coilovers ??(I tried them in rear and came off a week later).Oh the issues that come with HP

Re: running coilovers on our cars?

I'm running 275's with my MM coilover kit and it is really close. I haven't had a proper alignment done on the car yet but when I first got them on the tire was rubbing on the spring so I adjusted slightly. I'm hoping with a proper alignment it won't be an issue but if it is I have some extended studs and 1/4" spacers to go on to solve that problem.

Re: running coilovers on our cars?

What about spring rates? What would be recommended for an upgrade for stock without much sacrifice for daily driving comfort?

haha, that 1000 miles was pretty awesome feeling. The adjustability was pretty awesome, I set it at pure 'looks' than then realized getting up my driveway was an issue, a quick turn of a wrench and lifted it right up. It rides better as well, but my struts are valved to the spring rates I chose.

Worth call to MM on the spring rate, the best ride quality will come when matching the spring rate to the strut and your ultimate goal of what ride quality means to you. Which is why I called MM, and they got me dial in perfectly with their MM Struts paired with 350lb springs.

Re: running coilovers on our cars?

part of the reason Im thinking of making the change is if I do the panhard and torque arm I need different rear springs and they match those based on the front springs and the steeda springs on there now arent my favorite things in the world.

i got some prices sent over, its a little better than advertised on MMs site (apparently theyre super hard up about obeying MAP pricing). I think to get the best deal though Im just gonna have to jump on the deal of the day when its the parts I need. The Panhard bar on there today is almost 20% off

If I cant find a smokin deal during black friday/cyber Monday Ill just be checking the daily deals every morning and slowly acquire everything

I did that last year and imagine I saved a least a few hundred dollars on my entire front end setup.

yep, theyre "package" deals are a joke. $1500 rear end setup and they take off around $50

I the Panhard yesterday and SFCs today are both close to 18% off so it appears to be the way to go. Although depending on my christmas bonus I may just call em and ask em to cut the **** and sell me everything at once for a good price

Well from what I remember from last year and the year before, I'm pretty sure the last day of the "Deal of the Day" sales, they toss almost everything up there for sale. Don't take my word on it, but I believe that happened last year.
