Battery Relocation to the trunk

Wondering how you guys have yours set up. Looking for ideas for mine. I already have the box ready to go in the trunk. I was looking at running my 2g wire from the fuse pannel in the engine bay where the original 2 positive connections hit before going to the battery. Running that to the trunk with a 250 AMP inline fuse for safety reasons. Then I was going to ground the block to the frame. Run a ground wire from the block all the way back to the battery terminal. Also run a ground from the battery to the frame for redundancy.

If you have relocated your battery please let me know how you set it up!!

Thanks!

I have mine in the trunk. I ran a 2g from positive side battery to cutoff switch to fuse post. I also pulled the alternator wire from fuse post and ran a 2g from alt back to cutoff with a 150amp fuse in line. Battery is grounded to frame in rear 2g. Cutoff switch required per nhra rules.

I was not planning on running a cut off switch. I still drive the car on the street. Just want better weight distribution. Only run the car in the 1/4 mile a couple times per year. Just want to be safe incase something happens a hot wire isn't running through the car.

I would just place it on right side in trunk and run one 2g wire to fuse post and then ground it to the frame in the rear if not worries about passing tech. Be sure to wrap the wire good, most specially where it comes in contact with sharper edges when routing from rear to front.

The shut off switch doesn't need to be outside the car? If thats the case I would have no problem putting one in,

The switch does have to be outside per nhra rules. I used the rod style (push pull) and drilled the hole through the tail light lense.

So if you run at the track you need to have the switch? That makes no sense to me because there are so many new cars that come with the battery in the trunk.

In an emergency, they want to be able to kill all power quickly. Guess they figure newer cars come well equipped from the factory.

Re: Battery Relocation to the trunk

If you are running at the track you will need a disconnect switch and you wont be able to just run the wire to the fuse panel because you will also still need to run a altenator wire to the switch so that when the switch is thrown the engine gets shut off

I believe the biggest part of the problem is on most cars when the battery is relocated then the hot lead runs under the car where it could easily be damaged and even if you put a 250 amp fuse you could potentially burn the car to the ground with a short

How and where are your wires ran from the battery to the switch?

Re: Battery Relocation to the trunk

I mounted it right to outside of lid. Inside I made an access hole for all wiring then ran on side of trunk lid just like factory wiring is run
