28in tall tire
Anyone here run a 28in tall d/r?
Thinking about picking up a set but I have the stock gearing and the car just has exhaust. What mods do you guys have?

Re: 28in tall tire
FWIW, Drag radials do not mix well with stick cars.(At least not for maximum 1/4 mile performance) Others will chime in I'm sure and support and argue this both ways. With stock gears, stick with a 26" tire. Unless you have 4.56 or lower gears, 28's are overkill. I think some guys on here have used them with 4.88's. Several older and much more experienced drag racers have told me not to run any more tire than your car needs. Hope this helps.

Re: 28in tall tire
+1 ^^^^^
I have 28in slicks and a 4.56 gear in my car now but its still not enough gear for the tires so the car will run as good as it should. I will be installing a 5.13 gear to make up for the tire height.

Re: 28in tall tire
28" are over kill for a stock gear car. I run 28" mt et drs on the street (1.72 60ft) 28" (1.54) slicks at the track and have done so with 4:56s and my current 4:88s. They are great with a lot of gear but will only slow you down with less gear. I effectively lowers your final ratio.
Stick with 26s 5:13s Holy hell. I thought the 4.88s were overkill. I was only trapping at 6100-6200 with the 4:56. What rpm are you getting with your current set up through the traps.? |

Re: 28in tall tire
Thanks guys. I was under the impression that the 28 would be way too much. Just wanted some other opinions

Re: 28in tall tire
6800-7200 need it to be at 7500 or more cause my shift points is 7500. With my current setup it makes high rpms power needed something to get it in the powerband quicker off the hit.

Re: 28in tall tire
Ya 28" is way too much tire for a stock geared NA car. I ran a 28x10.5x15 slick for a while. It barely cleared with stock springs. And once I switched to a 26x8.5x15 I dropped a tenth in my 60'. 1.7s with the 28" tire and 1.6s with the 26" tire.

Re: 28in tall tire
I prefer 28 as long as you have the gear. The extra sidewall helps.
