So who swapped their Mach1 motor for Coyote motor
Looking to improve the gene pool with something newer and bigger. But I don't want to break the bank!

Re: So who swapped their Mach1 motor for Coyote motor
It's been done in other mustangs but I don't think it's as simple as you would imagine.

Re: So who swapped their Mach1 motor for Coyote motor
ehhhh... thats debatable. i dont like the electronic throttle on them. they seem to be having trouble with #8 pistons lowing compression. i'd much rather just build my existing engine

Re: So who swapped their Mach1 motor for Coyote motor
I have seen at least 3 of the 5.0 motors for sale on other sites . Why is that ? Too hard to install in a older Fox body , I dont think so. I think that some of the #8 cylinder issues are also a concern . I mean most of the most of the motors are being pulled from newer cars, Wrecked maybe ..maybe not !

If the Mach hasn't blown the engine I'd consider what I did..BUY A TERMINATOR that way you get another car out of it. Just my opinion

Re: So who swapped their Mach1 motor for Coyote motor
100% Correct, #8 failures were all on cars with aftermarket tunes, none on stock tunes.

.But what i say is the new 5.0 motor is having #8 cylinder failures and head ticks !They also are having trans issues too. Just 3 issues like the Machs did. So...thinking out loud, it may not be any better than a Mach!

Another thing that isn't spoken very often is originality. It may be worth more down the road with its original engine.

Re: So who swapped their Mach1 motor for Coyote motor
I think we will see more swaps as more and 5.0's get into the wrecking yards. I just don't think you will see a lot of Mach's with a 5.0 in it being it is a limited production car.
Plus with the 4.6 4v kind of never finished the job ,crummy cams ,horrible intake and exhaust manifolds. They finally said screw it and threw a blower on it in the Terminator. I have been impressed with the way my 4.6l has responded to mods. I just wish Ford had would have used the 96-98 cam grinds stock and the car would have been a true 350 hp car from the factory. I'll probably get a used 5.0 GT 3-4 years down the road when they get under 20 grand and build one. For right now I'm saving for a big bore boss block and build a 600 hp na motor with my outdated c heads. |

Re: So who swapped their Mach1 motor for Coyote motor
There is no debate as to which engine is better. In stock form the 5.0 makes 100rwhp more than a 4.6 while having a much higher and broader tq curve. Also, the potential of the 5.0 is far greater than that of the 4.6. There are stock, unopened 5.0s with longtubes running low 10s in NMRAs coyote stock class when a stock 4.6 would have trouble getting mid 11s at the same weight.
It does have some growing pains but then again did the 4.6. The 4.6s include: shitty intakes, head cooling issues and those came about many years after the 4.6 4v was introduced. There really is no comparison. A cheaper option than the mustang 5.0 is the truck 5.0. It has .5 lower compression and cams with less duration but with aftermarket cams and a boss intake will outperform a stock 5.0 by a great margin.

Re: So who swapped their Mach1 motor for Coyote motor
As NA SVT said, better is better. If they both have identical issues(hypothetically speaking), and one makes a much broader, factory, 100 more hp, then that would make the 5.0 better.
But as far as getting everything hooked up, wired right, and street driven, an LSx swap is actually easier and probably more common. It's really ironic that probably the easiest, non-GM car to swap a camaro engine into, is the mustang. |

I would never claim that. I would just rather build the 4.6 engine. Just my 2 cents.

LSX motor my *** ... In a local series grudge races last year it was GM and Ford . My friend with a Mach went to race a 93 Fox body with a LSX motor. Just before the race we went from a 125 shot to a 150 shot of nitrous. He said that he knew it was going to be close ,but even it blew up he was still going to be in front. He was by about 25 feet.

Re: So who swapped their Mach1 motor for Coyote motor
Because with an intake and a tune it will make more power than just about any 4.6L N/A build.
Why WOULDN'T you?
