Painted lip on Bullitts or FR500?
Has anyone evey seen Bullitts or FR500 rims with the polished lip painted to match the color of the car? I thought this might look really good. If by chance there are some pics out there, please post.
Also, how hard do you think it would be to get them painted and maintained? |

Sorry but IMHO, that sounds like a HORRIBLE idea!! That's something you'd see on a honduh or turdyota or other pos rice. But to each's own! If YOU like it then do it! No need to look for approval from us, cause after all, it is YOUR car and YOUR money, so do as YOU please!

As long as your car never leaves New Jersey and I never visit New Jersey, it's totally cool.

LOL! Here is where I got the idea. I just think some separation between the black rim and tire looks good.

Re: Painted lip on Bullitts or FR500?
I sold my CS and in process of shopping for a new stang. Thinking of a Mach. There is a TR I was looking at. Just thinking a red lip on a black rim would look good. Or, if a Black Mach, red rocker and hood strip with red accent on the rims. I have seen blacked out cobra's with a small red pin strip on the rim that looked really good.
Probably will need to photo shop a pic to see how it looks. Would agree not to want it to look like an import mod. |

Re: Painted lip on Bullitts or FR500?
Well whoknows?! If done right, it could come out looking really good! Or horribly wrong! Good luck and I hope you get a great deal on your future Stang!

Re: Painted lip on Bullitts or FR500?
I've seen someone with some black omega godspeed wheels with a painted lip. And It looked sick imo, the deeper the dish the better it would look I think...

Re: Painted lip on Bullitts or FR500?
I've seen a tr cobra with black and red bullitts lip was red didn't look too good since all the badges were blacked out. So I'm guessing that in a tr Mach it would be too much black and red

Re: Painted lip on Bullitts or FR500?
There's a yellow Saleen clone here in town with 18" Saleen replicas that are black with a yellow lip and I actually like the way they look. I don't think I could do it on a Mach, but on a Saleen clone it kinda goes with the theme.

Re: Painted lip on Bullitts or FR500?
I too think this idea would have potential. I set up a c6 at work a while back with black wheels and a painted to match yellow lip and it looked amazing imo. I'd like to see this done on a TR.

Re: Painted lip on Bullitts or FR500?
Eww :puke: I think it looked tons better on the S197 pic that was posted. Maybe it'd look better on a different set of wheels?

Re: Painted lip on Bullitts or FR500?
If someone has a high resolution pic I can do a much better photoshop. But all the images I come across online are too low of a quality to do any real editing. For good editing I need at least a 2000px image.

Re: Painted lip on Bullitts or FR500?
Would be sweet but you'd really need exactly body colored lips and not just "red" or "blue" or whatever generic color for it to look right.

Re: Painted lip on Bullitts or FR500?
I think it would look really cool on a TR Mach with Black centers.

Re: Painted lip on Bullitts or FR500?
Imho I would use a different rim then the bullets and fr500s if your going to paint the lip.

Re: Painted lip on Bullitts or FR500?
I don't think I'd do the whole lip, but I always loved this particular car with just a strip:

Re: Painted lip on Bullitts or FR500?
I agree, it looks like the small stripe on the rim looks really good. The entire lip may be too much. Thank you all for the input!

Re: Painted lip on Bullitts or FR500?
Where do you go to them painted... body shop? Or would you need to get them powdercoated?

Re: Painted lip on Bullitts or FR500?
I think that particular red stripe is just tape. But, if you get them painted: Powdercoating is more durable than normal body shop paint work but not as customizeable from what I understand. I've personally never done any paint work on my wheels.

Re: Painted lip on Bullitts or FR500?
I would have them painted over powdercoated. I wasn't impressed with powdercoated rims. At work we paint a few rims and it comes out far better than powdercoated finishes.

I painted mine black, its not hard all u do is mask the lip off and scuff the surface of the lip with like a 320 grit. Make sure that u dont go to deap and hit the al and then rattel can it yourself with a few thin coats. I have powerwashed and scrubed the rims tons of times and they look perfect. http://s1212.photobucket.com/albums/...urrent=345.jpg Last edited by fordrules; 04-02-2012 at 10:10 PM. |
