Re: the next generation of tires
This idea has been out for some time now, I saw this something similar to this several years back. One of the problems they had with this design was the "memory" of the plastic. When the vehicle is parked over night the tire forms a flat spot that stays for the first few minutes of driving cereating severe vibration. Unless they have that sorted out it's still just a concept that would be great for vehicles that don't need the flashiest of rims.

Ok so I live in Maine.... When I park in my slushy driveway at night, in a puddle, in December, and then go to leave in the morning, and my car is frozen to the ground, will Michelin replace my axles when they snap? Seems like they need a side wall.

Re: the next generation of tires
Being from the North I agree. Drive away and leave half your "tire" on the driveway.

Re: the next generation of tires
I had seen a similar idea on hmmwv tire/wheel a while ago, but then heard nothing more of it.
I agree with the out of balance idea, what happens when one side is caked with mud and then you try to go highway speeds!

Re: the next generation of tires
Has anyone considered the sidewall is missing just for show ?? To help explain the new technology?? And that the tires you buy in the actual store would ahve traditional side walls ??

Re: the next generation of tires
Maybe ?? I'm not sure ?? Perhaps I was just overwhelmed with your question marks!!
Yeah, you are probably right - they would just have to be pretty flexible side walls to work with the design. Wonder how these tires would work for gas mileage? Each tire would almost have to be specifically designed for a car and it's weight so that the contact patch wasn't too large - like a car driving on a flat/low air tire. Also curious how they would work for cornering - as on a traditional tire the sidewall is key for stability. Obviously these have a lot more support on overall - so they are probably fine. Would just be curious.

Re: the next generation of tires
yeah, im pretty sure if they were smart enough to create a tire like that, then they are also smart enough to figure out how ugly it is. i'm sure off roaders could appreciate these. a drag version might be cool too.
