mm cc plate issue, need help!

Hey guys I just finished installing the cc plates and ran into an issue having a bit of space in between the strut shaft nut and the spacer beneath that. I ran through the instructions several times to make sure everything was correct but no matter how I move the spacers I still have that bit of space in between. Now correct me if im wrong but I don't believe that space is supposed to be there??? I did take it for a drive at first not noticing the space, when going over bumps the spacer makes contact with the nut and obviously I hear a loud banging noise. And yes the strut shaft nut is tightened as far as possible, regardless how I move the spacers I still have that space in between. Any help or comments are welcome, thanks.

I have tokicos on my mach with the MMs. I can take a look if need be.. as you know its freaking hot outside

Cool Re: mm cc plate issue, need help!

Slovo I think you have the right combination. I have MM caster camber plates and that what I have.

Yes sir.Like I said Ive tried switching them around several ways including the 2 big, 1 small up top and one small on bottom and I still have the space in between the spacer and nut and it also hits the hood. As for the struts I cant remember the brand, all I know is they are the cheap-o autozone struts.

Re: mm cc plate issue, need help!

Can't tell from your picture but do you have a fat washer under the plate and a thinner one under the bearing. It does appear to be a spacer problem. Here is a photo of mine.

Scratch that, in the picture which I took just now I have 1 small on top of the bearing plate and 2 big, 1 small under.

Re: mm cc plate issue, need help!

That's what I hear when set up like this. Here is what is on the American Muscle site about hitting. Do you have the instructions.

Before reinstalling the strut top nut, be sure to very carefully check hood clearance with the new components. It is wise to use a small amount of "Play-Doh" or silly putty placed on top of the strut shaft while closing the hood. The amount of smashed in putty will clearly show how much hood clearance you have. If there is too little clearance you can relocate one spacer from above the bearing plate to below the bearing plate, thus lowering the strut shaft relative to the spherical bearing plate.

Re: mm cc plate issue, need help!

Ok, I switched the set up, I dont have that big space in between anymore but, its also not "tight" meaning theres a TINY bit of space in between about the size pens tip.Is it supposed to be that way??? Not sure what else I can do?

Re: mm cc plate issue, need help!

there shouldn't be any play what so ever... you didn't mention what struts you have..or i missed that.. I believe to a certain extent that the more spacer in the bottom the better as opposed to put them on top..considering the hood is touching

I cannot remember the brand, I replaced them over a year ago, all I know is they were the cheap-o autozone struts they carried.

Re: mm cc plate issue, need help!

Every set up Ive tried leaves that big space in between BESIDES the set up with 2 big 1 small on top of the bearing plate and 1 small under which hits the hood and has a tiny space and not tight like it should be.

Re: mm cc plate issue, need help!

i just went into the 125* garage and the MM CCs on it only have the thin spacer on top, then the nut. and the top of the strut is flush with the top of the nut... I would say its the vatozone struts.. I would either put all four spacer at the bottom and a thick grade 8 washer from lowes on top.. and if it still hits the hood.. cut/grind the top of the strut..

or contact MM on monday.. and maybe they can send a pair of thin spacers?

No sir, thats the set up on the first pic I posted 2 big 1 small on bottom and 1 small on top. It doesnt hit the hood but it does have that space in between the spacer and nut and makes contact on any bump or hole.

Yeah I have a feeling its gonna be the vatozone struts because I have yet to see anyone have this issue. For sure ill call mm on monday and explain the issue to them and hopefully they can send an extra set of thin spacers. Thanks for the help.

+2 it being something stupid lol, well as far as this forum I spent a bit of time searching for someone with the similar issue but, looks like nobody has ran into it. Outside of this forum I couldnt find anything besides the instructions that I received with the kit which didnt help at all. Well, theres always a first for everything right.
