Re: Shifter??

For the 3650 I just went from a Steeda Tri-Ax to a MGW and can give you some of my experiences. From what I can compare from the two the MGW is a quicker / shorter shift but you need a little more strength to shift it. Third gear...well, I still need to switch the tranny fluid and install the proper amount set by Tremec not Ford. Third gear is a still hit or miss above 5k rpms. It feels like something is blocking the gear so much that it will not go in. I know I am not missing the gear it just will not go in at hard and high rpm shifting. Again I do believe its mostly in part due to the amount of fluid in the transmission.
The Steeda Tri-Ax I found to be comfortable to shift, easier to reach, a bit longer of a shift, and can find third so much easier than with the MGW. It would be rare that I would not get third with the Tri-Ax but it does happen...fluid again I think. I also had the actual Steeda Offset Tri-Ax shift handle which is a big plus over the stock Tri-Ax handle. I don't think Steeda offers them on their site anymore.
Out of the two I can say the Steeda is more comfortable, but the MGW is a quicker / shorter shift. Just combine the two and you have a perfect shifter lol

Hurst demoted to "other". Hilarious! Just chalk up another W for MGW.

Re: Shifter??

Haven't driven anything but the factory and the Pro 5.0, which is in the car now. I didn't use the little stubby shifter lever that came with the new one. I used the factory lever and ball. That little stubby thing may be cool looking but when you're strapped in, ya can't reach it. At some point, I'll have this one extended another 2" to 3" so it's even closer to me.

That's why I went with HURST not that goofy short, hard to reach, sold at Walmart, MG something or other.

Re: Shifter??

The MGW site needs one of those Amusement park clowns showing how tall you need to be to use an MGW shifter.

I drove my buddy's car with a Pro 5.0. I like it a lot more than the MGW in my wife's car.

I'm 6ft tall and my elbow almost hyperextends when I go from 2nd to 3rd. I roll my hand so that my palm is slightly facing the passenger side of the car. It goes straight into 3rd every time due to the natural motion of my arm with my hand in that position.

Re: Shifter??

I have had three Pro 5.0's on a T5, Tremec 3550 and a T45 and have no complaints with any ofthem. I had one Hurst and I disliked it so much that I gave it away. My buddy that got the gift ended up tossing it for a MGW.

If you want one that is comparable to the old blue handle like I've got, get the silver handle. I see now that they offer it on the website. You use to have to call and ask specifically for it.

Re: Shifter??

I just won a Steeda Tri-Ax on Ebay last night, so im going to give that a whirl. Ive had a couple Pro 5.0's in my stangs, as well as a Hurst and a B&M ripper and the Pro 5.0 was the best IMO. A buddy of mine had the Tri-Ax in his 02 and I liked it, so I figured I would give it a shot and couldnt beat the price on a lightly used shifter.

Im also going to change out the shifter ball with a white hurst type. Im tired of getting into my Mach on these 100+ degree days and branding the palm of my hand because that thing gets so hot.

Just switched from stock to the MGW. Night and day difference! I've had the Tri-Ax before and this MGW is way better!
