Car Audio Setups?

Didn't see much for a car audio setup thread. Post it if ya got it. I have a nice deck, amp, dual 12" setup in my daily, but like to hear the mach so I don't listen much to cds... or just listen to them low volume. Anyone have nice car audio setups? I'm thinking I may add a small amp, single 12" sub box, and sub this summer.

I have a Sony headunit, 12" Sony sub, and kenwood high&low pass filter amp. 1200w. Stock 460 speakers.
Love how it sounds, blows the stock system away

Re: Car Audio Setups?

I have an alpine deck, 1000W alpine amp, and two alpine R1 12" subs in the daily. The rest of the speakers are stock. I added that system for half price just before I left best buy. I still have an older 12" Blue Thunder sub and amp, that would be great to throw into the mach. All I'd need is the wire kit, a skinnier box, cuz the regular enclosed box doesn't fit, and to have it installed. I would like to put a screen style deck in it someday, just not a top priority now. That space would be perfect for it.

Re: Car Audio Setups?

Alpine headunit (one of the old glide touch deals..it was cool at first, now it annoys the hell out of me), sirius and ipod controllers mounted under the pass seat, MB Quart premium components in the front, MB Quart 3 way in the back for a little filler. JL 500/1 with 2 12" elemental audio subs (had 12W3s, surrounds rotted off after about 6 years), JL 300/4 pushing the other speakers. The inside of the door panels and trunk lid have been layered with sound deadening.

Re: Car Audio Setups?

I have a Pioneer D3 that i installed in it back in 05. This summer when i do my cage i will be yanking all of the mach audio equipment and wiring, and installing a Infinity Kappa 4 (very small and light yet packs a punch) Also i am sourcing a old discontinued set of infinity kappas that use an electromagnent in place of a conventional ferrite magnent.

End result 3 times the sound with 1/3 of the weight of the original equipment.

Eclipse double din DVD/GPS unit. MB quarts components in the front and back. MB quarts amp to run my mids and highs. Single JL audio 12W6 sub with a Soundstream amp running at one ohm to push it. Sounds amazing

I bet that does. I would love to upgrade all the interiors like that someday... just have other priorities now. Although, like I said, I find it hard to listen to tunes when the car sounds so amazing!

Re: Car Audio Setups?

Double din Pioneer Touch screen up front with Infinity speakers all the way around. Sony Xplod 1100w amp ( I know, I know) and a JL audio 8" sub in a ported box. I , and many others, think the sub sounds amazing for its size. Plus being in a Mustang, trunk space is at a premium and that tiny box helps alot

Re: Car Audio Setups?

Stock head unit with a JL 12W6V2 in a sealed box with a JL 500/1 amp and a cap. The amp's gain is probably about halfway up with the bass on the head unit at -4ish and sometimes the bass still drowns out the stock speakers... It sounds **** good overall, but I would love to upgrade the speakers.

I don't want to upgrade the deck for security purposes; stock deck=less likely to get stolen since you can't see the sub/wiring/amp.

BTW boostownsme, I agree on the space thing. I have to remove the trunk latch striker just to get the box in/out of the trunk. Hah. Hope I don't get a flat and need the spare anytime...

Re: Car Audio Setups?

Not a Mach buttttt.....

Pioneer 10" DVC 350W rms sub in a custom box made to .75 ft^3 powered by a MTX 400W mono amp. I only have Boston Acoustic 5x7's in my doors and rear deck powered by a Rockford Fosgate 400W 2 Channel amp but wanted more bass. Everything is made so I can put the car back to stock and you would never know I had a system in it.

Here you can see that I took out the factory molded carpet for the drivers side and made an exact fiberglass mold so I would not have to cut into the factory piece. This will get carpeted as well to blend in to the stock look. Also the wires will be re-run to get hidden

Both my amps mounted to the back of my seats to retain as much trunk space as possible. Again the wiring will be cleaned up.

This is a pic of the passenger side existing trunk hole that I used to secure the box. These holes are used for the MACH1000 systems that comes in these cars. Hole was there, why not use it?

I had added in three protective bars across the Sub....then bought my Mach and now it all sits in my garage LOL

Re: Car Audio Setups?

I just finished a new audio setup, alpine 9857 deck, kicker eq, Polk 6.5 components all around, kicker 650.4 for the highs and a Rockford fosgate t-1500-1bdcp powering my 12" Fi BL in a 2.9 cf potted enclosure tuned to 33Hz. It sounds amazing, I do have some rear deck rattle but some second skin can take care of that. I'll post Some pics when I get chance

Re: Car Audio Setups?

I have two full systems in my truck and in my v6. In my truck I have alpine deck, amps, and alpine type e 10" sub. I think it sounds great. And in the v6 I went a different route (cheaper) and used polk audio for everything except the deck and sub. In my opinion I think the system in the truck sounds better...But best buy still swears polk is the best...I went with a 10inch sub because I listen to a little bit of everything and I was told it keeps up with rock a little better.

i went with Polk because i was able to get one set for free back when circuit city was still in business. I think they sound decent, but they do lack a little more depth in the mids, with my EQ I'm able to adjust the sound on the fly so I am able to get a little better sound out of them.

The only reason I say I dont really like the polk is because I can jump from my truck to the v6 and hear the differance. The polk dont distort but they dont put out loud sound. The alpine however is very good. The best sub I have used is the alpine type R.

Being a best buy installation Supervisor.. The polks we carry do put out a nice SQ for what they are... but are far from the best, Bestbuy carries Polks lowest end Series the DXI which are replacing the DB's the momo's are Polks midgrade and the top of the line are thier Signature reference series..

For the money in a un amplified situation. The polks are nice. Personally though in a amplified situation thier are much better choices.

In my F150 i will be running Kicker QS series components front and rear, Kicker 640.4 4ch, Kicker 1000.1 amp, Two 10" solo classics under my back seat, and a pioneer 4300 dvd

I bought the polk because at the time they were havin a sale if you bought polk or kicker stuff. I was told by the best buy installers here that the polk and kicker were of the same quality and all that is that not so true?

Both nice speakers, Off Deck power (or factory amp) alone i would choose the Polk's as the SPL will be very close but the SQ of the Polk is slightly better..

But when under a nice amplifier, The Kickers simply walk away from the Polk's and have the potential of being about 30 percent louder before distorting Not that the polks dont still sound good ampflied i would just choose the kickers in that instance.

Re: Car Audio Setups?

When putting together my system in my GT pictured above, I picked the brains of a local car audio shop and it came down to "the best speakers are the ones you won't find in any best buy/walmart/pepboys etc type stores."

I think that holds true. MB Quart, Boston Acoustic, Hertz etc are the higher end speakers and will never get ahold of them in any franchise store. I learned a lot when putting that system together including what "quality" sounds like. MOST people, once including myself, typically like more bass in their music. But as soon as I heard a SINGLE loud clear amplified BA 5x7 speaker I was blown away.

But it end up being like exhaust threads...personal preferance. My quality sounding system in my GT with amped 5x7 BA speakers, Sony HU, and 10" sub was "too loud" in the vocals for my fiance....ppsshhh what does she know LOL.

Re: Car Audio Setups?

i agree, the polk db's do sound good but i've heard other brands and a few of them do have the ability to get louder. anyways here are some pics of my setup:

Center console with amp bass knob on side and epicenter knob in front of shifter

The sub: Fi BL 12 dual 2ohm 4"voice coils, it can handle close to 2000watts rms
