Head Light Mods

Has anyone replaced their head lights with the HID 100/80's. I've heard from Ford that they are not good for the plastic lenses and they could cause condensation later.

Also has anyone found any nice looking projector beams or HID's for the headlamp assy. or fog lights?

Don't use the 100/80 watters! I had them in my 97 F150 and my wiring harness connection at the bulb fried. After I fixed the socket, I switched to the Eurolite Fusion bulb made by Toucan Industries. These bulbs produced a bright white light using stock wattage. A lot of people using the higher wattage bulbs have had these types of problems. I hope this helps you.

Thanks,
I've noticed there are some out there that use the lower wattage and claim to have the brighter light. Maybe I'll see if they work well.

I thought the silverstars worked pretty well in my explorer...

and whatever youre talking about arent HIDs then, true HIDs run the same or cooler than most normal bulbs..just takes a ton of power to get em to come on.

Xenondepot.com makes a good quality Philips HID conversion kit

www.xenondepot.com

as for Projector lamps, someone on 3.8Mustang.com converted from Halogens to HIDs using a set of Bi-Xenons from an Audi

I bought some silver stars today, going to install them tomorrow.
Did you have to disconnect the battery and remove it and remove the airbox to get to them? Both sides looked blocked or else I'll need a very small hand.

pull the headlight itself out. It's retained in by 3 metal clips. It'll take alittle effort to pop it off, but it'll come

When using the silver stars are both beams brighter or just the high beam? I would like to leave the low beam as is so I don't get flashed back.

Installed mine today, it took a little effort. I love'em. Much better, nice $30.00 mod.

both beams are brighter, the low beam ain't bad, i've only been flashed once in about 6 months (almost, I think) of having them. it's even more fun flashing people back, you can just see their "god dammit" face :p

I replaced mine a couple weeks ago. Went with the Silverstars in both the headlamps and foglamps! Big difference over the crappy stock bulbs.

I've messed with all kinds of halogen bulbs claiming to be brighter, except those blue ones that ricers use. I tried some Silverstars on my truck and I can say I do notice an improvement. I haven't seen those Eurolite Fusion bulbs mentioned by machburger. HIDs would be the ultimate, but $30 vs. $800 is a no brainer. Plus HIDs are a drastically more involved conversion.

I have heard these type of HID lights only last for about 300 hours? It seems like a lot but depending on how much you drive at night, that can be very short. I see somebody put the part # for the fog lamps down, but what is the part# for the actual headlights? Thank you

The Sylvania's are not the same as silver star's are they?

If not, are the sylvania lights as good as the silver stars?

My 899 Silverstar fogs keep burning out. Getting expensive. Which fogs are people using? I'm thinking about the wattage and what not....maybe it's too much for the 899s to handle.

Sylvania makes the Silverstars and also makes the factory bulbs that came in your Mach.

Is anybody having any luck with the fog lamps from silver star lasting more than a month? I would like to get them, but I would like to hear someone who has had some luck with the fog lamps first. Thanks

I haven't had the fogs for a month yet, so I will post back when a month is up! You guys aren't touching the glass of the bulbs with your fingers are you? If you are, that is why they are burning out. They are just like a quartz bulb. Grease from your fingers causes the bulbs to prematurally burn out....

i havent touched the glass on them i do run my fogs when its overcast during the day, but that little bit of added use shouldnt be causing them to burn out so quickly
