Looking for a change Mac vs borla
Ive currently got BBK Lt's BBK orx and a mac catback. Dont get me wrong, love the sound. But i think im ready for something a little different.
Im looking at getting a borla stinger catback, Im wanting to know if anyone could tell me does it have a little less drone than the mac? also, which one is generally louder? I am mainly trying to cut down on interior noise a little bit and wondering if the stingers may be the answer. Thanks.

Re: Looking for a change Mac vs borla
Yeah, mine is 2.5" But around 65 - up, it gets to the point its a little obnoxious after a while, around 75 I have to talk a little loud to clearly understand everyone.
We'll see hopefully some other guys have some opinions.

Re: Looking for a change Mac vs borla
In my experience straight through mufflers seem to resonate less in the interior, but IMO there's always going to be drone above 2K-ish RPM when you're not running cats. For experience, I've had SLP LM1s, Mac, and Magnapacks on this car. I really can't say I could tell a difference between loudness while cruising above 70 with any of the set ups, they were all loud, the straight throughs just have a different way of being loud.

Re: Looking for a change Mac vs borla
The packs I just took off my car with my o/r x droned waaay harder than my super 44s do. At 2k rpm on the highway, if you even breathe on the gas pedal get ready for some loud azz drone.

Re: Looking for a change Mac vs borla
Well I generally like the loudness, but just like said above, the drone is starting to get old.
So even though all setups will have a little, you think the straight throughs (borla) will be alot more forgiving than the chambered like my MAC for interior. Is pretty much what everyones saying?

Re: Looking for a change Mac vs borla
any of the larger body straight through mufflers will have less drone but they will be a bit quieter. I'll never run anything again except a full size magnaflow or a full size borla. They have the perfect sound/loudness with an o/r pipe.

Re: Looking for a change Mac vs borla
I have Borla Stingers with o/r x and with the cruise set @ 70 or above, There is hardly any drone. You can actually carry on a conversation, and/or listen to some tunes...But, if the car drops to 65 the drone is horrible! I was actually thinking about going to one of borlas more quiet mufflers. Its hard to even get on the car in town, since u can hear it 10 blocks away (cops love it!)...and I wanna put longtubes on sometime. Haha!

Re: Looking for a change Mac vs borla
i agree - the stingers with long tubes and catted x are loud - driving around town you have to be 1/4 throttle or less - apparently it sounds good because im always getting compliments

Re: Looking for a change Mac vs borla
A little late to the party but here is my 2 pennys.
My wife's car runs Stingers with a UPR catted X pipe. Highway speeds are just a tick loud with 4.10s. Her car is a GT so it has less overdrive than a Mach1. 0.68 for a GT vs. 0.62 for a Mach IIRC. I'm currrently running Magnaflows with an O/R h pipe on my Mach. My Mach is a little better at highway speeds than hers, but the mid pipes about even it out. I had Macs on my old Fox body and they droned a lot compaired to either of these systems. I actualy replaced the Macs with the Magnaflow system on my Fox before swaping it to the Mach because of the Mac's drone. Pro Chambers and H pipes are more apt to drone than a good X pipe. For the record I hate BBK X pipes. If you compair them to a UPR or Dr. Gas (My personal favorite) they look more like 2 Us back to back than a X. The BBK pipes get an really odd sound to them compaired to others. My Dr. Gas pipe I had on my Fox was the smoothest sounding I've ever had. Sounded like I was running twice as many RPM as I was, but didn't have that raspy sound a lot of the others have. |

Re: Looking for a change Mac vs borla
I've m in the same boat, trying to find something that won't be to loud and very little drone with my o/r x pipe. Let us know what you decide!! What do people think about the Adreniline SSS exhaust? It's a straight through.

Re: Looking for a change Mac vs borla
I have an o/r x pipe with a Magnafow Magnapack catback, the drone is very little. Going around town is fine, but when i want to get on it its hard because the sound travels for MILES.

Uh, no it doesn't. Doesn't do a dam'd thing. NOTHING. I have 80lbs of Dynamat Extreme in mine which I put in the car when it was 3 days old. Just put up the windows, it will work 1000% better than DYNAMAT. TOTAL waste of money. And if you don't believe me, you are welcome to come for a ride. 101db at the rear view mirror measured at WOT @ 3k.

Re: Looking for a change Mac vs borla
I have a 2 1/2" catted X and when I bought the car it had a MAC catback, loved the tone, but way to freaking loud and too much drone. Switched to SSS Adrenaline (said to be similar to Borla Stingers), even better tone, somewhat quieter and a little less drone. Finally now I have the full size Magnaflow catback and it's just right. Still nice tone, loud enough when you get on it and just a slight drone at 2k rpms.

Re: Looking for a change Mac vs borla
fwiw, my .02 is that Borla is the way to go.
i have Mac Longtubes, a Mac O/R Prochamber, and Borla Stingers and at a steady load (cruise control) it's almost as quiet in the car as when it was just the Stingers. under load... i get compliments all the time on my set up and i wouldn't change a thing about it.
