My New Shelby

My 3 month old Husky named Shelby. Got her a few weeks ago. I learned house training blows with her lol. She's fun and man can she get hyper.

She makes a good co-pilot.

This is the S or question mark on her back depending on how she is looking

Sometimes you're just plain doing it wrong. Sitting in the water bowl.

So far I haven't had any problems but that was the one thing I kept reading about Husky's. I have her out a few times a day off leash and she always stays close to me but once she gets to where she can outrun me and a little too adventurous I'll start using the leash.

Its a B&M Hammer Shifter with a round B&M knob. It comes with the one shown in the picture on Summits website but I wasn't too big of a fan of it.

Re: My New Shelby

She's going to have a beautifully colored coat when she gets full grown.
Keep updating pics for us, I really want to see how she turns out. I'll do the same as well.

I wanted a black and white one but when my red one looked at me with those eyes I was like "let's go home" lol.

How was your pup in the car?

Taking her out ALL the dang time. We use the crate at night and when not at home. She whined the first night in the crate but now she goes right in and it's her spot. They can't "hold it" for long. Definitely always keep an eye on her and when she starts sniffing around hurry her outside and try to always go out the same way. It took a few weeks for us, but she has started going to the door when she wants to go out. Still have accidents on occasion. Main thing I did was take her out a lot. Like every 30 min to an hour. Now I take her out every hour or 2 since she is a few months old.
Big one too that I found is as soon as she wakes up from a nap take her out first thing. There are a ton of websites you can read up on. Thats what I did.

Be patient though cause as I have found they are smart, but stubborn dogs so when she is out of sight she is either chewing on something (rug, shoe, window frame, leather couch) or "going" inside somewhere. She knows when she does something wrong I think sometimes she just tests me.

From what I have read and found out husky's will do things to test you out. Shelby won't bite me or do certain things around me, but when someone else is with her she will bite them(not hard, just playing) and do things she knows she isn't supposed to. Just do a lot of reading and you will find it very useful as most of it is spot on.

Re: My New Shelby

I have a book on huskies to help me.
Rule of thumb is that the crate is their bed. They won't pee or poop in it unless they absolutely cannot hold it in anymore.
The length of time that they can hold it in is their age in months plus one. Mine is three months old so 3+1=4 hours.

Does your pup lay down in the grass when you take her out and dig her nose into the ground?

Mine just started walking on the leash as opposed to lazying around lol. She knows how to climb the steps and knows what apartment door is ours too now. Good girl.

That is such a beautiful dog. I would love to have one however I have allergies and I have heard Husky's are not the best dog to get with the amount of fur, shedding, etc.

Oh yes. She does the same thing. Digging her nose down in the grass and laying down. At first it would take a while for her to finally go but she knows now and as soon as she hits the grass she starts peeing lol.
In the month I've had mine she has not once pee'd or pooped in her crate so that is a fact.
Has your's started digging in her water bowl? Apparently thats common also. Makes a huge mess but she just loves to get her paws in her bowl and start digging.

Nope not yet. She's barely eating. We are trying to get her on a certain eating habit. We have to soak her food in water for now because she's teething. She nibbles my hand at times but I read that's a sign of affection.
If she still eats as little as she has been I have some high calorie paste I can put on my finger and let her have so she doesn't have a calorie deficit. She ate like a mother****er the second day when I made her bowl look like a bowl of cereal lol.

I see yours likes to sit in her bowl haha. That's too funny.

Mine also just started crying and howling at night. We put her crate in our room when we went to bed last night and she was good. They say if the pup is in the crate then move it to where people interact so they don't feel left out.

Someone also said instead of treats for the dog put carrots in the freezer and let them have it for praise. I'll have to try that. Apparently it's very good for teething puppies.

The first 2 weeks I had her she liked to nibble on my hand and I also soaked her food in water.
Her crate is in my room also and she will whine sometimes if I'm not in the room too lol. In the mornings I take her outside before going to work and put her back in the crate. She has learned the schedule and doesn't whine while I'm gone anymore. The first week or so they told me that she would whine about an hour after I left but she has stopped that now.
I have heard about the carrots but I haven't tried it yet. Do you freeze the whole carrrot?
Mine loves ice. She will step on it and it will shoot out and she will chase it all around before finally eating it. I also found she loves to chew on an empty plastic 20 oz coke bottle. I took the paper off of it and let her chew on it until she puts a whole in it, which she has only done with one of them. She does the same thing with the bottle that she does with ice. Steps on it then chases it. She gets so excited she starts running before actually picking it up and jumps back at it. She cracks me up doing all of that. Its too much fun.

She was pretty. Its awful losing a dog. Shelby does so much that reminds me of stuff my golden retriever used to do. You get attached so easy and they become a part of the family so quick.

I was told baby carrots but I want to research it. I'm bringing her to the vet today for a checkup. I'll ask the vet and let you know.

And that's the truth. I've never had a pet in my life but vie always wanted a dog. As soon as I saw Meeka's beautiful eyes there was absolutely no doubt in my mind I was getting her. It took 2 minutes in the car and I was attached.
I can't imagine losing a dog either. She feels like part of the family that's been there all my life but it's only been since Monday that I've had her.

That's a beautiful dog you had and I'm sorry to hear. (_bones)
