How do I remove a spinning/stripped stud/lug?

I have a 91 Mustang LX that has a lug nut that just spins. How would I go about removing it? Would I drill out the center? It is an open ended lug nut.

Re: How do I remove a spinning/stripped stud/lug?

gonna have to drill it out... once you get the lug off drill the rest of the stud out. dont use too big a drill bit, because you will bore out the spindle. if that hapens you yill have to replace the spindle.

ONce you get the Lug nut off you dont have to drill the stud out you just have to use a hammer and a something to knock the stud out from behind.

Re: How do I remove a spinning/stripped stud/lug?

I duct tape up the rim, and burn it off with a torch. Duct tape can take alot of heat before it will burn.

I had to cut one out with a torch too. Sucked, but there was no way around it.

spot weld the lug to a socket... remove with ease
do the same with the stud.

Re: How do I remove a spinning/stripped stud/lug?

easy way is to pull the axle, cut the back of the stud off ,then punch it out, press in new stud ,done

Re: How do I remove a spinning/stripped stud/lug?

Have some one pull on the wheel while you use an impact to take the lug nut off. You will need to replace the stud bc the grooves on the stud have rounded off. I have used this method before at work

most of you guys are trying way too hard. take the brakes off, hit the stud dead on and it comes right out.
