Re: clutch quardant opinions?

See, that's my point.

You have to adjust your clutch properly, before you can say a clutch cable is bad or good. An adjustable cable has a purpose. And it is not solely to adjust to comfort.

What mistake most people do, is put the adjustment where they like it, which usually ends up putting the cable too tight, or too loose. Too tight, or too loose leads to premature failure. With any cable.

Anyhow, air gap is the amount of gap you have between the clutch disc surface and the flywheel surface when the clutch pedal is pushed to the floor. You measure it using a feeler gauge. It should be at .030"

The MM kits usually come with a stock OEM cable.

Stock OEM cables are good, but not for my 7,000 RPM car:THUMBSUP:

so I'm guessing you use a feeler gauge through the dust cover on the trans? I'm wondering how you get a feeler gauge in there....

I can't tell you how many people I've asked how you adjust a clutch, and nobody seems to be able to give me a solid answer, I've asked many performance shops including JPC which is a widely known performance shop and justin himself told me, "as long as its between 1/3 and 2/3 in the entire travel of the clutch pedal (0/3 is the floor and 3/3 is the clutch all the way out) you should be fine, just put the friction point where you want it"

could you explain a little more in detail for me (and everyone else who is interested) Thanks!

Re: clutch quardant opinions?

Whatever you have to do to get .030" air gap, then you do it.

One person in car, one person under.

You can modify the bellhousing, or use the dust cover hole.

I have a tool I made, that makes it easier. I attached the feeler gauge blade to it, and can swivel/maneuver it to where I need it to measure.

Anyhow, one person under car adjusting and measuring, and one person in car pushing pedal.

Here is basic instructions, pre measruement.

Re: clutch quardant opinions?

No problem.

Notice on the OEM cable, adjustment is straight forward and as simple as can be, not really much adjustability in a stock cable set-up. Tends to be a problem when dealing with 6,500+ shift points.

Re: clutch quardant opinions?

ok...so when it says to make sure the clutch is in the full up position I would assume somebody needs to be pulling the pedal up?

Kelly have you ever compaired your results to the "dime thickness" method that promotion uses in their video?
