transmission problem. suggestions?

I recently added a procharger plus some other goodies.

I went to Pine Valley last weekend and experienced problems.

When I drive the car normally (which is nearly all the time) it shifts okay. Sometimes a little grind going to third.

I found out Saturday that at higher RPMs it locks out 2nd and third.

Also now while driving normally, it will sometimes jump out of third when not under load.

The most inexpensive option would probably be a rebuild of the transmission.

What are my other options? I am guessing I can buy a built transmission and put that in, but there are different types. I have heard good and bad about each.

Is there anyone here that is an expert on this that can give me some honest options I can look into?

I have even thought about going with a swap to a built auto. But that requires changing the ECM ? It would be the most expensive right?

thanks

Re: transmission problem. suggestions?

Might want to rule out the simpler stuff like your clutch pedal/cable assembly and your shifter first. Do you have an aftermarket quadrant/adjuster or access to another shifter?

was going to ask the same question, its a simple troubleshoot you can try. also T56 trans is a good one, i'm going to a T56 Magnum here in about a couple years.

I was havinig the same problem on getting locked out of gear, but it wasn't popin out of gear on me, just lockin me out, the adj clutch cable kit fixed my prob

it might also be the stock cable is strech out, might want to replace it first, if that don't work, get a FW adj and quad, people have used Fore and Steeda most of the time

Re: transmission problem. suggestions?

It has a stock cable setup. The clutch assembly is 2003/2004 Cobra parts.

I have not had issues shifting at higher RPMs until last weekend.

Your point is well taken. I will put her up on jack stands and peek though the inspection port.

I do not expect to find any though since the clutch works fine, no slip, noise. Also no problem with 1st and 4th or 5th.

I can replace the cable to eliminate that.

Re: transmission problem. suggestions?

mine just sneaked up on me like yours did. it will get worest and you will get pissed off about it, also your stock quad could be worned out, i know you have alot of miles on your mach, mine was at like 50K when it went out.

you won't be able to tell by looking at the cable, i think the only way is to put it beside a new one, but not sure,

i would trouble shoot this way first
1. replace stock cable
2. replace to a diff FW adj and quad (there are many to choose from)

if not that you prob have serious problems w the trans, this solved my prob so i didn't have to get furture into it. so this is where i leave off on the tech advie part. those are the cheap trouble shoot ways, plus they are nice to have, i enjoy mine

i also have a Steeda clutch pedal stop, i really like it alot IMHO

i have stock cable, Steeda FW adj and quad

Re: transmission problem. suggestions?

well for me i'm doing the T56 Magnum rated at 700tq, will do what i need at the hp and tq level i'm going to reach, also wanted a six speed, so happy bout that, i think it would be wiser upgrading to a better trans than rebuild the stock one, might be alittle more money but be worth it in the end.

others that have more tech experiance will chime in, just giving you the ideal of what i'm doing,

if you scroll down you will see the thread i had going bout the T56 Magnum/ Viper and a see what people said bout them. also the auto might not be a bad ideal, i just love shifting gears and a auto is out of the question for me to do.

Re: transmission problem. suggestions?

If it's that bad, and it's not the cable, then the SYNCROS' are probably shot.

Re: transmission problem. suggestions?

I've decided to install the MM quadrant and adjuster and a new cable. see how that goes... then use Bill's secret sauce. If those don't work. I will do a rebuild of the 3650.

I used my stock cable with a quadrant/adjuster and my lockout problems went away.

I've heard bad reviews about aftermarket clutch cables.

Re: transmission problem. suggestions?

Could be the syncros or shift fork. Probably not clutch related since it does not happen in every gear.

Do not use any clutch cable besides a stock replacement.

What tranny to get depends on what you want to do with the car. I love the .62 5th gear ration found only in the Mach1 3650. I simply had mine rebuilt. I did upgrade the sliders.

Re: transmission problem. suggestions?

I decided to continue my philosophy that I wanted to do from the start.

If it breaks, make it stronger.

So I got a PMP/3650, performance cobra clutch and fidanza aluminum flywheel.

I guess the next thing to break will be the 8.8. Already have welded boxes and arms.

Bill, those new nittos were ok unless I came out of the hole over 2K.

2nd/3rd lockouts. maybe ProMotion will fix that.

Folks offerred to let me use their slicks but without clean shifts didn't want to waste their rubber.
