for 450rwhp or lets say 500rwhp what would be the best set-up on clutch and flywheel that could be beaten on and handle that hp. i've been looking a lot at the spec clutch and flywheel combo. what are ya'll using and what do you thank

Re: good clutch and flywheel set up

I have a spec stage 3 and stock flywheel, BUT when my car is back up I will have replaced my flywheel with a centerforce SFI Billet steel flywheel. Much much stronger than stock and can handle more horsepower than Ill ever throw at it. The best part is I got it for free.

The spec stage 3 has been a great clutch for me so far. Lighter pedal feel than stock and engages smoothly for the most part. Good for 680 lb ft of torque and is quiet for the most part. It only chatters if you dont hit the engagement point right. Its somewhat tight of an engagement point. Very happy with it, though. Its fairly street mannered for a race clutch.

Also they have the spec stage 3+ out now which holds the same amount of power as the stage 3 but its supposed to be much more streetable. Smoother engagement, almost no chattering and what not.

Re: good clutch and flywheel set up

spec stage 3 is too much clutch for a stock 3650.

I dont have a stock 3650. Also, 450 rwhp is too much power for a stock 3650. You will have a twisted input shaft on your hands before long.

Re: good clutch and flywheel set up

i know plenty of guys with terminators that are running their stock clutch/flywheel at over 500 to the wheels with no issues. I'm getting the cobra clutch/flywheel myself, should have it monday!!

The 03/04 cobras have a different clutch and flywheel than we do.

03/04 cobra clutch part #: # M7560D46

03/04 mach 1 clutch part #: MU70308-1

Re: good clutch and flywheel set up

I have been beating the heck out of a Zoom HP Stage 2 for the last 3 years and it holds up awesome. Got the matching aluminum flywheel. The clutch is not an on off type but it is graby! (is there such a word) It is a monster at the strip and not bad feeeling for the street. It is heavier feeling then stock.
They also have a new ZVT for the Mustangs. If anything goes on this one or when I need another one I am going to try the ZVT.
Good luck on your search.

Re: good clutch and flywheel set up

seems from what everyone is running there are a few different ones to go with, thats good to know, price might be better than some, but it seems most clutch's and flywheels cost around the same, but thanks for your input hope i hear from some more guys and see what they are running, mine right now is total stock on clutch and flywheel, the only upgrade is the clutch cable adj kit and i think i'm going to have to go buy the stock cable from ford, its kinda a pain to drive when its cold, really hard to push in, but after you warm her up she feels great. someone told me they had the same problem with theres and they just went and bought the stock cable and that problem was solved

I wouldnt really worry about your clutch and flywheel too much. Your 3650 is gonna be the bigger problem. The 10 spline input shaft in that transmission is only rated for about 400 lb ft of torque before it becomes prone to twisting. Also, the cast iron shift forks and synchros arent the strongest either. Its nice to have a good clutch and flywheel, but if you get a clutch thats too grabby then you will actually make it more likely to break your stock 3650. A grabby clutch is gonna make that torque hit your tranny like a freight train when you launch and the stock components in the 3650 cant hold up to that kind of stress. You would actually be safer using your stock clutch until you could upgrade the transmission components because it wont be as grabby and if its slipping alittle bit thats better so the torque doesnt hit that transmission as hard.

The torque doesnt come in near as hard on a centri. After I put my vortech on my stock clutch lasted a week. He wouldnt have to worry about breaking the input shaft if he doesnt run real sticky tires.

Re: good clutch and flywheel set up

I just ordered the FRPP 03/04 Cobra M7560D46 clutch kit. The website says the kit is the clutch, pressure plate, and throwout bearing.

I guess the flywheel is sold separately? Does FRPP sell a flywheel to complement this kit?

If you want to replace your stock flywheel you are better off getting one of these:
