WELCOME, N.C. -- A crew member for Richard Childress Racing has died of complications from the H1N1 virus.

Donald "DJ" Richardson died late Friday after a lengthy hospitalization for acute respiratory distress syndrome. Richardson contracted H1N1 during a Thanksgiving visit to his home state of Massachusetts, and team officials say he had been hospitalized at Health Alliance Hospital in Leominster the entire time.

The 37-year-old Richardson spent last season as a tire changer on Kevin Harvick's crew.

He began his NASCAR Sprint Cup Series career with Andy Petree Racing in 1999 and had previously worked for Penske Racing, Hendrick Motorsports and Braun Racing.

“All of us at RCR are saddened by DJ’s passing,” said Richard Childress , president and CEO of Richard Childress Racing. “DJ was a gifted tire changer, one of the greatest team players in the business and a valued member of the RCR family. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family and friends.”

“Anyone who knew D.J. realized that below the tough exterior was a caring father, friend and teammate,” said Matt Clark, director of human performance and leadership development of Richard Childress Racing. “He had a huge heart and would do anything to help someone in need. D.J. loved changing tires and was recognized as one of the top pit athletes at the position. I want to extend my condolences to his family and friends.”

That Hospital is close to home Russ, about 18 miles from my house. That's probably the best place to be without going into Worcester or Boston. Our prayers go out to his Family and friends.

Well, there are those of you who don't have the choice to get it, and I feel sorry for you. That vaccination is just one more way the 'world' government is trying to kill off 80% of the world population and make the rest infertile. Never getting another vaccine ever.
