bleeding brakes.

trying to get the how-to prospective. since i am doing a full service on my car i wouldn't feel right not flushing the brake system. fluid is as old as the car is and i wanna get some fresh stuff in there. be sure to list any tools required. a second hand is available.

any help would be greatly appreciated.

Re: bleeding brakes.

Pretty simple stuff. Make sure all bleeders are closed, pump the brakes 8 times and hold down on the 8th. Open the bleeder. Close the bleeder. Repeat.

I would go ahead and flush your fluid. All that this requires is just adding new fluid in the master cylinder as you bleed. I used ATE Super Blue due to it's high boiling point, and it also comes in handy being able to see when all of the old (not blue) fluid is out of the lines.

Bleed in this order.

rear passenger side
rear driver side
front passenger side
front driver side
master cylinder

I think there is a how-to write up somewhere on this forum for this...

I'm not sure what you mean... My car is running fine if that's what you're asking.

EDIT: Got what you mean now. No, the car doesn't need to be running.

Fixed. Don't wanna flush all of the crap that has been sitting in the reservoir through your brakes.

Re: bleeding brakes.

the way i used to "flush" the master cylinder is to use the old turkey baster method. can you use this on these cars or is there a different method involved?

Re: bleeding brakes.

Yes, use the turkey baster to remove as much of the old fluid as you can from the m/c first. I usually add just enough fluid to aid in cleaning the m/c then use the turkey baster and bleed out all of the old fluid from the m/c, then move on to the rr, lr, rf, Lf line bleeding. Having only flesh, clean fluid moving through the lines will help save you time and it will be very noticeable when all of the old fluid is out of the line. There will be a noticable change in color between the two.

Re: bleeding brakes.

This is the old tried and true method yes ...but this works on ABS cars? I hear its hard to get air out of the lines because of the ABS ...for some reason. I'm about to do a line-lock and want to get this right!
