1999 Cobra instrument cluster into Mach?

Don't know about others here but my eyes are over six decades old and can't read the Mach speedometer too well. I picked up a 1999 Cobra instrument cluster thinking I would be able to see the bigger numbers on white background. Easy to put in and take out but it doesn't work. The car won't start. Put the Mach back in and fires right up. Obviously something different between the two. Is it fixable? Is there a wire or jumper or something that can be changed to make it work. Has anybody else done this. Yeah, I tried search but this search engine sucks and produced zero. Any help would be appreciated.

you have to reprogram the PATS system for the new cluster.

You can put the circuit board out of the mach cluster into the cobra cluster and it will work.

Only if they are calibrated the same. Looks like for the most part the speedo would be off a touch but with a tuner and some trial and error you could make it work. Tach looks about the same and the rest of the gages should be the same as well. Other options would be to have a dealer sync it with your PATS system or turn PATS off in the tune.

I like the uncluttered look of the Cobra speedometer also. The PATS will have to be dealt with, either by reseting it or deleting it, but I believe that the change of speedo from 150 to 160 wouldnt be a problem. I think that an FRPP speed cal would be able to adjust the speedo for the slight difference.

I did always wonder why the mach's guages are different. They do suck to read!

Re: 1999 Cobra instrument cluster into Mach?

Thanks to all for the replies. I'll try swapping the circuit boards this weekend and let ya all know the outcome. I pretty much drive my engine RPM anyway so I'll make the speedo work regardless. LOL Greatly appreciate the help!!!

Much thanks to Mach1of03 and droptop Mach. Swapping the circuit board worked like a champ!! And now I can even read the speedo. Not sure how close the speedo is but I'm thinking it is better than with the old ... in fact almost perfect. The old was off 3mph at sixty because of the larger rear tires. My eyes are very happy.

My point was, if you switch the board the speedo WILL be different/off unless they were both the same numerically. The car will at least fire up and then the speedo would have to be callibrated. Less apparent here as its only 10mph spread out over 150/160 mph. It would be much more obvious with a GT or V6 cluster.

Glad it worked out! changing the board at least lets you keep your true mileage, an isue i was dealing with and never could work out (GT swap car and cluster, cobra drivetrain/cluster). My cobra cluster reads about 14K higher than the body, chassis and interior have.
