Some new mods for Auto X
Just got my seats and harnesses in. The harness bar will be here on Tuesday.
They are Corbeau FX1 Pro fixed back seats with G-Force 6 point harnesses. I am running a Corbeau harness bar also. I also stripped the entire backseat. Before I installed the seats, I removed 148 lbs and I installed the seats and brackets which were 48 lbs. 100 lb loss isn't bad. I may do a seat delete eventually. The stripped back seat isn't very clean looking but it is weight. Here are some pics. The harness pictured is my old harness 4 point for use with my stock Mach seats. |

Re: Some new mods for Auto X
My 6 points? They will attach to the Corbeau Harness bar that isn't installed yet.
The current 4 point is attached to the seat belt bolts. It is a Schroth Rallye 4. |

Re: Some new mods for Auto X
OK. I thought they went right to the floor is all. Very cool though. I need a set of seats badly! But I have to do a power steering pump, water pump, A/C delete and a few other thingies first. Race season will be short for me this year. No sense even thinking of chasing a championship. Deffinitely won't have the budget I had last year.

Re: Some new mods for Auto X
I am just hoping to hit up Watkins Glen or NJMP this July. Other than that I am sticking to auto x. I cannot afford to many open track events as a student.

Re: Some new mods for Auto X
Seats look good, you can make your own seat delete getting everything from Home Depot or Lowes and it's pretty cheap as well. The black outdoor carpet from Lowes is darker but still looks like it fits.

Re: Some new mods for Auto X
Thanks.
I think I will do a rear seat delete soon. I might just pick up one from AM. I am not much of a fabricator. I have to get the cash though. I just spend money on the seats, harness bar and two 6 point harnesses. Student life FTL! |

Looks good! If you don't mind, how much did it set you back $$. Is it straight forward install on the stock seat rails?

I'd like to know how much you spent as well. I'd love to do this to my car and the seats you picked are still classy instead of ricey looking.

The seats were $752.40 with the discount I had. I will take some pics of the interior with the harnesses and bar tomorrow. |

Re: Some new mods for Auto X
I'm debating getting the Corbeau harness bar for use with a 5-pt harness that is currently bolted to the back seat mount points.
Let me know what you think of it when you get it in! Your FX1's look really good! |

I love the harness bar and it works for me because my rear is stripped but it really would make the rear seat even more pointless than it already is. I will probably do a 4 point roll bar eventually when I afford the install and when I decide I want to get that far into this car. |

Re: Some new mods for Auto X
Okay, try to imagine you had left the stock seats in....
Still think it would work well? I have basically the exact belts you have, but the 5-pt version. |

Stock rear seats? Ya it would work but the rear is completely pointless. |

I wouldn't run a 5 point with a stock seat though from what I have read. It causes the camlock to be at an incorrect angle. Rather than against your lower abdomen it is slightly horizontal and its not made to work that way. |

Re: Some new mods for Auto X
Hrmmm.... I don't know if it's just the way I mounted the lap belt, but I've been experiencing the exact opposite... I'm having to cinch it down a bit tighter than I'd prefer just to keep it from riding too high up my abdomen.
I only really have one other car to compare it to, which is a fiat that I've driven with a momo seat and (I vaguely recall) G-Force straps (also 5-pt), but it's a fully prepped car and the cam lock ends up lower on me in that one than I can manage to get it in the Mach. I'm looking forward to having the bracket done so I can use the anti-sub belt to bring it down just a bit. |

Re: Some new mods for Auto X
Oh wait.... just went back and re-read what you said.... (insert large forehead slap here!)
You might be right that when I get the anti-sub belt in, it's going to start pulling it more horizontal.. Good tip. I'll have to try to mock it up a bit before I go too far and perhaps I'll end up going with a 6-pt like you're using to put the anti-subs offset a bit. Worst case scenario is I'm out the $$ of one 5-pt harness less what I can sell them for used. :P Last edited by MachThunder; 05-29-2009 at 06:01 PM. I don't run SCCA here so the classes are much looser. I run against stangs that are much more modded than mine and then some that are less modded. |

Re: Some new mods for Auto X
The stock front seats with a 5 point harness can interfear with the seat adjustments, forward and back. If you have the seat more upright than angled backward, a four point harness will do just fine. You can order a 6 point and be set whether you go with only a four point with the stock seat or 6 point with any seat. My next harness will be a 6 point and will move my current harness over to the passenger side as a 5 point. I'll still have the stock front seat.

Re: Some new mods for Auto X
Can't find my pictures of my set up. Must be on the other pc. Anyway, I use a 5pt with stock seats. Not totally ideal but they will work. I mounted the anti-sub belt eyebolt directly under the seat like I had a race seat with the hole. Backed it up with 1/4" plate steel. For now, I have the anti-sub belt running up the front of the seat and back into the camlock....I had latch and link style til I had to change them due to the wreck. The length of the anti-sub wasn't long enough and I had to get a custom length belt. I think it was like 30some inches.
The belt does come near the seat adjustment. I usually put my seat back, put on the belts completely, tighten the lap and shoulders and move the seat up til it's tight. Anti-sub length is already set so it just tightens up also. I run them very tight, as they should be. Loose is bad. My lap belt is mounted on the tranny hump directly across from the factory bolt that had the factory belts. It now bolts the lap belt. I also backed that tranny hump mount with 1/4" plate 6"x6". When I changed my harness, I went from latch and link to camlock. The latch and link was a little more comfortable due to that large leather patch. The camlock is just metal. Not bad, just not as comfortable. Kind of a preference thing. I wanted the ease of the camlock.

Re: Some new mods for Auto X
Love that harness bar. That shoulder harness restraint is very nice. I need to get something like that welded to mine. Thanks for the idea. I been lazy in my thought process for something like that.

Re: Some new mods for Auto X
Could you tell us more about the mounting points of the harness bar, bolted, welded, maybe some pictures. I may look at a bar like that also.
