Re: Camshaft upgrades
what abou the 106400 and 500? piston to valve issues?
it cost alot for a cam set so just curious if going a little bigger would be better

I had someone contact me regarding PTV contact with stock pistons and 106500s just a couple days ago. This is not the norm though as I've installed them in a motor and know of three others that have done so also without any problems (all B headed motors with short runner intakes). I do not recommend the 106500 for a motor with C heads and stock intake. The 106400s are about the most aggressive that I would recommend, but shorter duration cams would make more average power...I know, everyone wants high peak numbers. |

Re: Camshaft upgrades
so how hard are they to install? I was thinking about buying dans but i want to install them myself. Is there a place online where i can get all the torque values and is there anything else i would need special for the install? Also does the front timing cover need to come off? i have never installed cams before so...
Thanks

Re: Camshaft upgrades
If you are buying Cobra cams, you will just be changing the intake side, so their is no need to take off the timing cover. You will just have to pull the valve covers on the passenger side. On the driver's side you will have to pull the hydroboost assembly in order to get the valve cover off.

Re: Camshaft upgrades
so i was just reading.... so does it have to be degreed? I was reading some older cam threads and its sounds like you just have to mark the srocket's and chains? is that right?

Re: Camshaft upgrades
I lined up the dots on the sprockets and installed them by the keyway, which is "straight up" & didn't degree them.

Re: Camshaft upgrades
I got all of my torque specs from the Sean Hyland book. Also, for anyone looking for a set of new FR500 cams, there is a set for $530 shipped at www.svtperformance.com in the classified,cobra/engine section!

Re: Camshaft upgrades
im gonna have the motor out of the car before it goes in. and want to do a cam upgrade.
is it really worth going to a comp cams stage 2 or stick with 96-98 and just save the money? itl be full exhaust and intake. 4.10s and 5 speed

Only you can answer that question. It all depends on how much power you want and how much moeny you are willing to pay for it. Going with aftermarket cams that don't require springs would offer some savings over those that need springs, but you'd still spend over $1k. |
