Re: Drove the New Challenger.... and its official....
For those of you who have bashed this car and have not seen or been in one, Ford takes a back seat to the Fit and Finish of this car. The quality and craftsmanship is excellent. This car even comes with side curtain air bags. Jay Leno praised the new Challenger and called his old classic Hemi Challenger a bucket of crap compared to the new ones. Jay's the man, he ought to know....

STR has stated the manual will run "similar times" as the auto.

Re: Drove the New Challenger.... and its official....
You thought a Challenger is supposed to be a sports car? People think everything is a sports car these days.

Re: Drove the New Challenger.... and its official....
Do you consider the GT500 a sports car? If yes, then the Challenger is a sports car since it can beat it in the corners and keep up with it in a straight line with its pig-iron underpowered Hemi.

GT500 is a muscle car just like the Challenger. People need to educate themselves. Nobody seems to know the difference between a muscle car, pony car, or sports car.

Re: Drove the New Challenger.... and its official....
Ha, The challenger 6.1 has the same HP as the charger 6.1L, and they weigh about the same, ive outran 2 Charger str8s 6.1Ls when i just had exhaust on my Mach, they are not fast for there HP numbers, cuz they weigh more than a bus. The Challenger with the 5.7L hem with 380hp was running the same times as a 99-04 Mustang GT with 260hp.

Re: Drove the New Challenger.... and its official....
Guys, do you really think anybody that will buy these cars are going to keep them stock? I don't think so... It will take more HP to get these things rolling, but you are also working with a 5.7 that responds well to JUST basic mods. This motor responds to bolt on's like the Chevy LS1. Now Imagine a head/cam/intake/exhaust swap for starters, and if that's not enough, you always have power adders. I've said it before, this is not a bad car for a DD, heck most DD are toyota's, mini vans and nissans. Mine should be at the dealership in December. Then let the mods begin with 20" Classic Torq thrust II, Classic Trans Am hood and the Classic side decal kit for starters. The motor mods will come later.... I can't wait, I feel like a kid in a candy store.....

Re: Drove the New Challenger.... and its official....
.... way to pick apart my words...
The reason I said its the end of the "SPORTS" car era is every new car that seams to come out seams to be sacrificing power and performance for safety.... Want examples ??? 08 + Mitsubishin Evo 08+ Subura WRX STI 08 + Challenger 09 + Camaro I know it sounds dumb but I was a big fan of both the evo and sti growing up, and maybe its just me but to release a NEW verson of a sports car and have it perform almost 1 second slower in the 1/4 mile is absoute garbage. |

Re: Drove the New Challenger.... and its official....
lol at the hate....Well where to start...
The Machs were selling at premiums...for about 15 minutes when the 03's came out...in fact there are people here that paid over sticker...By the end of the 04 run...they were offering 4k rebates. The same for the new Mustang...now you can get leftover GT's for 19k.. Yes...the car is a pig...yes SOME dealers are selling the SRT for over msrp...blame the gt500. / ...Heck over sticker for a bullit...now ther's a steal. or how bout the Shelby gt 350...wow that is a legal steal. The r/t version does have the stick...and will sticker for about what the 03/04 Machs listed for...and as stated...it's a whole lot more car. oh and the Challeger is a PONY car....like the Stang and the Camaro..

Re: Drove the New Challenger.... and its official....
Seriously tho, we are talking about cars with different appeals and perhaps purposes. Depends on what you are looking for.
If it is a lightweight, fuel efficient, basic 1/4 miler then the Mach is hard to beat. If it is all out power and cheap easy modding ability, then the GT500 wins hands down. If you are willing to trade some performance for comfort and a nice ride and decent retro looks, then the Challenger R/T might fit the bill. And if you don't mind the dismal mileage, added weight and want the added horsepower, then Challenger SRT8 might be your cup of tea. Point is, these cars all offer a different experience depending on your wants. It is nice to have choices. I'd have one of each, if I had the space, moola and time to enjoy them all.
