Folks with fr500 or gt4 post your pics! i am stuck between those 2 for mach azure blue... both look nice i was wondering do they make gt4 in 17's, i want to keep my oem acceleration thanks

Black FR500's on my Mach...

Just by going with a bigger wheel the extra weight will slow the acceleration slightly. If you keep the same tire height 17 or 18 inch wheels won’t change acceleration as much as going from a 8 inch wide to a 10.5 inch wide wheel. but honestly if you aren’t into racing it don’t worry about it just get what you like.

The Hypercoated ones on americanmuscle.com look great too. Especially for the rear deep dish. When I do get a set, it will either be the FR500 or Saleen style in hypercoated for my black mach.

I'm interested in 17" GT4s as well because tires are cheaper in 17"... do they exist? And does anyone know how much the GT4s weigh? I know the FR500s are a boat load.

Yeah the AmericanMuscle ones are up in the 30lb range. There's a wheel weight thread on corral.net somewhere that has them all listed. I believe one AM FR500 replica size was 32lb.

Um, seriously... the difference in acceleration as a result of varying the wheel size in this particular situation is going to be negligible at best. You seem to be obsessing over a really irrelevant detail here.

Just buy whichever wheels you like the best. If you can honestly tell how much it slows you down or speeds you up, your butt is a more finely tuned dynometer than what most of us possess.

The weight of the 17x9 FR500 wheels for the 94-04 Mustangs is 26 lbs per wheel, and the 18x9 anthracite FR500 wheels are just over 30 lbs per wheel. The Hypercoated GT4 wheels in an 18x9 are 25.7 lbs per wheel. We currently do not carry any GT4 wheels in 17” sizes, and I do not know of any plans to carry them in that size in the future

Go with the 18s. There are varying opinions, but I think they look a lot better than 17s. The cost of tires is slightly higher, but the cost of wheels really are not. The real Ford Racing FR500s in 18x9 were around $240 per wheel a few years ago, but buyfordracing.com has them cheap with free shipping right now!
