can boost change with a higher octane fuel

I am looking at buying a 90 notchback with vortech and
the guy who owns it says on 91 octane it only sees 10 psi
of boost, but without doing anything else but changing the tune
on the switch and running 110 the car produces 14psi, is this right?
i figured you would have to change pulleys to change max boost

Re: can boost change with a higher octane fuel

I would think the tune would allow for more timing which needs the higher octane.

Boost will not change unless you change pulleys or run a larger Cran shaft pulley. With higher Octane you can run more timing, but boost will be constant

Re: can boost change with a higher octane fuel

You're not going to make more boost unless you spin the blower faster. I could see him getting more HP on a 110 octane tune, though. You could run more timing without detonation.

Re: can boost change with a higher octane fuel

Maybe he has a wastegate on there and it bleeds boost off with the lower octane tune...they did a dyno test on wastegates with centrifugal superchargers awhile back in a mm&ff...pretty interesting stuff

Re: can boost change with a higher octane fuel

with a wastegate (bov) you would still have to change it manually?, its not hardwired to the computer and change with the tune is it?
