HELP!! I broke the stud coming from underhood fuse box....

Just great....
I am pulling the motor on the Mach for a cam swap and a few other goodies...
and all was good until this happened.
The previous owner of my car had a audio system wired up in the car, and I guess he had the power running off of the stud from the fuse box right behind the battery. Well I decided to get rid of it a few months ago and I guess I put the nut back on the stud a little too tight and whenever I tried loosening the nut I seen the whole stud was twisting and not the nut.

Well, I eventually broke the piece under the fuses (idk what it looks like under there or what its called) that the stud is connected to.

I dont know how to take the top piece off to assess the damage...
And quite frankly have no idea what to do now...

I will be taking pictures tomorrow and trying to post them

Re: HELP!! I broke the stud coming from underhood fuse box....

I had the same problem when I changed my motor. The good news is, you don't really need to buy anything. The stud is just held in place by the molded plastic box. The stud itself is not connected to the box. The metal tab that the stud goes through is what is connected, and carries the power into the box. The nut and stud only hold the battery cable to the tab.

Pull up hard to remove the slide up cover.
Take a flathead screwdriver, put it behind the tab and bend it out just enough to get a pair of needle nose pliers behind the stud to hold it and remove the nut. Reassemble in the reverse order.

Yes, that is exactly what I am looking at!!
It scared me half to death whenever I was trying to get that nut off and I heard a crack....
Noob question, but the cobra harness/box would be the exact same for the Mach? They dont have different wires on the harness?

Thanks man! I am pretty relieved that someone else has went through this and fixed it.
By looking at the box, there doesnt seem to be any damage to the tab or the stud. Just the plastic box.
I went out and started moving the stud around, left to right, and seen the fuses also move the same direction. So I guess that a good sign that the tab is still connected?

I will now try to get that box off lol

Re: HELP!! I broke the stud coming from underhood fuse box....

I got it off, finally!
I took apart the bottom half of the box and took out the fuses, just in case so i didnt break them.

I tried getting some vice grips on the end of the stud and spinning the nut with a wrench with no luck. I ended up having to use a c clip, on the top and bottom, to keep the metal piece that supplies power to the fuses from twisting out of shape real bad!

Thanks for the help guys, I am hoping everything works whenever the time comes for it to work LMAO!
