Hello Mach 1 World
I’m Brian, new to the Mustang world!
After owning L98, LT1 and LS1 Camaros and then being out of the pony car world for a few years, I decided to plunge back in and change things buy buying a 2003 supercharged Mach 1. It the one Mustang I really, really liked when it came out so I figured why not?? After test driving a stock one, the view over the hood alone made me fall in love with it. Definitely old muscle car feel. Anyway, my car is being delivered tomorrow. It’s a 2003 Mustang Mach 1 with 59k on it, stainless long tube headers, full exhaust, JLT rai, Eaton supercharger, I believe similar to the terminator cobra. Some other engine and suspension mods. It’s like Christmas all over again 😂 |

Welcome aboard. A lot of good history and information here, and don't be afraid to use the search feature!
Being in Pa., it'll be easy for you to join up with us at the annual Carlisle show, our unofficial Mach 1 'event'. :borg: |
Re: Hello Mach 1 World
Thank you!
Car was delivered around noon today and it is absolutely a blast to drive. I’m surprise that I didn’t hear hardly any supercharger whine. Not used to the clutch and the short throw shifter, going to take a little getting used to. Car has 315’s on the back but is still easily able to break it loose which I did a lot unintentionally. So far I have stalled the car twice and keep missing third gear but I am getting the hang of it already. Been a while since I have driven a stick. I am very familiar with Carlisle and have been to several GM, Ford and Dodge nationals. Looking forward to bringing the Mach 1! |

Re: Hello Mach 1 World
Thanks for all the welcomes from everybody!
I’m trying to post pics but I can’t get it to work. |
Re: Hello Mach 1 World
Make sure you copy a link from the site if they're already posted elsewhere, otherwise they need to be fairly small files to download directly
We do have a photo gallery (link n upper left corner) that you can post to and link as well. Doesn't get used much of late but there are a lot of good photos on there. :borg: |

Looks great and nicely modded!

Re: Hello Mach 1 World
Thank You, gentlemen.
I appreciate the compliments. I bought this car with the intention that it was mostly modded to where I would want it and maybe just doing a couple tweaks. |
Re: Hello Mach 1 World
A few questions, if you don’t mind. I have never owned a forced induction car before.
I do not hear a supercharger whine on this car at all, is that normal? There is a boost gauge and it appears to be working and I think I know how to read it as it shows vacuum and boost but it seems like boost wouldn’t kick in until higher RPMs? Should I get the heat shield for the air filter as I would assume it’s sucking in hot engine air? It looks like the previous owner modified the shaker scoop as there is no pan underneath it. It looks like it would just draw air in and onto the top of the supercharger and that idle I suppose it would vent hot air? Thank you for all your help! |

Boost should be all in by 3500 RPM and carry up to 6500, check and see if the by-pass is function correctly, belt slippage...what boost are you seeing? Shield may help a bit but if ya could stick it in the fender it would be a lot cooler, like I did on mine. the shaker is pretty non existent function wise with a PD blower, the added cooling from fresh air cools it as your driving and yes will help dissipate some heat when at idle. |
Re: Hello Mach 1 World
It feels like it has a lot of power but I can’t really tell if the supercharger is performing the way it should. A few other Cobra owners have told me that it is not uncommon to not hear the supercharger especially since I have long tube headers and a full exhaust which is a bit loud.
So far I have only changed the oil and filter and the fuel filter. I have new tires coming next week as these ones are pretty much done. The air filter is a little worse for wear and looks like an old oiled unit, I ordered a new dry flow from JLT as well as a filter heat shield. Having the car for a week, it’s been an absolute blast to drive! I love being able to look out over the hood and seeing the scoop as I’m driving. Reminds me of an old musclecar. |
