My argument really is that with the current high flow cats that are available, why take the risk at all?
PLEASE reread my question!

I am not saying there arent any shops that dont work on modified exhausts, but it is illegal for a shop to work on a street legal vehicle that has had the cats removed. The shop cannot do so unless the cats are defective, or the cats/car has over 80k in miles or 8 years of age on the car.

Believe me, I tried to get cats put on my car, and they wouldn't touch it. This shop got his balls busted by the feds for working on O/R exhausts and simply refused to touch my mach. They said in order for them to do anything to the exhaust, legally they would have to put it back to stock because of the low mileage and relative age of the car.

I wasn't going to pay for a new stock exhaust. If it ever becomes an issue, I can always fall back on the dealer who sold me the inspected car with no cats.

WHo in the heck told ya that???
You guys have some serious misconceptions. If what you say is true, then the Feds would raid and/or outlaw the exhaust mfg from making catless off road pipes.
It IS illegal for a shop to REMOVE cats from a catted mid-pipe, but that's NOT what we have been talking about.

The way it was explained to me was it was illegal for the shop to work on a modified exhaust (catless) also. If the car was less than 8 yrs old and had less than 80k miles on it.

Think about it Bill, why would a shop turn money down? I am in no way saying shops don't do it, but this one wouldn't. Says he used to a lot until he got his *** handed to him with the 10k fine. Me thinks the Feds could do a lot with all of the laws on the books, but dont unless pushed/pressured to do so. Still one of those laws that can bite the unexpecting in the arse though.

Re: Long Tube headers

I don't understand why most people on here take their cars to shops just for exhaust work, it's not hard, and I think it feels pretty darn good when you do mods on your own, and save a ton of money. Might be a pain sometimes, but it's worth it in the long run. Isn't taking your car to a shop taking some of the fun out of it????

depends on what your having done...........exhaust work yeah ill do it myself, but lets say a motor build, etc. it just depends, my mach is being built at PSR because i have neither the want or the time to do it myself. i have my vette and viper that are taking my time so doing a build on the mach was outta the question in my garage and the shops around here never impressed me so out to phx the car went.

Re: Long Tube headers

PSR has them and if they dont they can get them..............
any shop that carries Kooks can get the 1 5/8's with 2.5" collectors and if they dont have them in stock im sure they can get them drop shipped to you straight from kooks.

sounds good... but then if i get the 2.5" collectors, do i need to change anything on the prochamber? or do the angles on the inlet side of the prochamber not line up with the collectors on the headers?

Re: Long Tube headers

your gonna have to mod the mid pipe...........every header manufactor is different which is why most offer there own mid pipe to go with there headers. i dunno how close or how far off yours is gonna be as ive never done that combo.

Re: Long Tube headers

it sounds good, but i think the best was M1M's kooks with magnapacks that was killer. real subtle when he was just cruising around till you mashed the go pedal then it sounded so dam killer.

Re: Long Tube headers

I just installed some 1 5/8 Pace Setter headers. I know they are shitty quality and all, but they cost 175 new and came with a matching X pipe. I had no clearance issues other than steering shaft. I did have to open up the port flange slightly tho. Im happy with the 175 Ebay specials, no leaks at all
