The Wideband Commander Air Fuel Monitor Install

Hey am i like the last person to install one of these?? Just got it done & it appears to work great! Has a nice PC display for my tablet & logs the data pretty easily. I hooked up the A/F of course & the RPM's for now so i can monitor those 2 things. Im holding off on the TPS & MAF voltage hook-ups for now till i gets the new livewire & see what that needs for inputs. My car is running like crap. I thinks i got some condensation in the tank from sitting all winter in the hot & cold garages.. I put the stock MAF back on & am starting the whole tuning thing over again with a stock setting currently.. Still running pretty crappy.. The stock MAF is more than enough for my power level so im gonna try it again first & tune from there.. I really like this A/F monitoring device. Cant believe i went this long without it!

If anyone wants a step by step of what & how its installed i could prolly take some pics & lay it all out for ya?? Im thinking everyone wanting an A/F monitoring device already has one though! I thinks i was pretty late in the game here..

Re: The Wideband Commander Air Fuel Monitor Install

First i had a "Bung" welded onto the end of my longtubes (while in the shop doing the rear end) just below & behind the 02 sensor.

Then the A/F sensor screws in to get its readings directly from the out-going exhaust. See Pic

Then i ran the wires for the sensor up thru the floor thru a hole with a rubber grommet.

Re: The Wideband Commander Air Fuel Monitor Install

Next you hafta connect the sensor to the commander box & run the 12V power lines to a "switched" 12V source. I used 1 of the hot wires behind the Fog/Traction control/Rear Def panel that was indeed only hot when key was on. This will ensure you dont drain your battery when not in use.

Re: The Wideband Commander Air Fuel Monitor Install

Next was hooking up the little gauge that comes with the unit. Its pretty simple. Both pieces i decided to tie-strap & mount near each other using the Glovebox door bar which was removed recently.. The gauge is only a temporary thing ill be removing once the Livewire is installed. I dont like gauges cluttering my dash.

Re: The Wideband Commander Air Fuel Monitor Install

Another step is finding an RPM signal for another connection you will make to have RPM's displayed with the A/F.. I used the line coming off the computer #26.. Seems to work OK & didnt hafta run wire thru the firewall..

Re: The Wideband Commander Air Fuel Monitor Install

There are 2 sets of analog inputs you can use also for TPS or MAF readings. Ive not done those yet & probably wont till i see how the Livewire works

Thats pretty much it outside of finding good grounds where needed..

Re: The Wideband Commander Air Fuel Monitor Install

Nice info, I went with Innovate system. It was the same process except I put my sensor further back on the h-pipe (in prep for TT) and ran the lead in thru the shifter boot via a dent in the boot ring and homemade seal. I was able to hide the LM2 and wiring in that area around the shifter. The software is about the same and I have not made the interface for the Xcal2 yet.

I think these are GREAT --- beats the HEII out of plug checks.
