Ahhhh the dronnnee!!

Okay fellas, I'm in a pickle. THe drone that comes with the MAC is getting rather obnoxious now and my girlfriend hates me for it lol. But anyways my question is...do all straight through muffler type catbacks like the pack and stingers have drone? Or what about that SSS catback that Ive heard good things about. Im thinking about switching back to my stock exhaust for a while and selling the MAC though it sounds SO good

SO what do you guys think? Should I go with straight through?

Re: Ahhhh the dronnnee!!

She's your girlfriend, not your wife. Keep the MAC, ditch the girl!!

J/k! BTW, I have Stingers and my wife loves the sound. Very little drone on stock gears at highway speed, virtually none below 50mph.

Re: Ahhhh the dronnnee!!

My gf is really not the reason..it's getting on my nerves because ive had flowmasters on my V6 and the drone was really bad and the MAC is kinda pushin me to sell it.

DO you have the 3 1/2" tips? If so go to the smaller tips and some of the drone will go away. All of the drone went away when I put the dumps on.

Re: Ahhhh the dronnnee!!

Hm that's something to think about. Because I love the sound of the mac system. But I plan on going with an X-pipe and im sure that'll make the drone even worse.

I can understand that bro. And even with the Borlas I worried the drone on the highway would get too annoying if I installed 4.10 gears so I've decided against them at this time.

Re: Ahhhh the dronnnee!!

Drive to cville and hear my MRT system. It is the badest muffer/hpipe I have ever heard. SS 2 1/2" catback with 304 SS Max Thunder muffers and the 2 1/2" MRT hpipe with high flow cats. Deep muscle car sound through the whole rpm range. No drone here. Had FM 40s for about 2 month. They drove me nuts.

Re: Ahhhh the dronnnee!!

Ive got drone at highway speed with my steeda catback but after putting in 4.10 gears with the car running at higher speeds the drone is gone (as long as u stay above 65mph.)

What mid-pipe do you have? I ran the stock catback with a MRT O/R h-pipe for a while and that didn't have too much drone, but was a decent bit louder than stock. It sounded good too IMO. Eventually it wasn't loud enough anymore, so I added Borla Stingers to the O/R h-pipe. It's definately loud enough and it does have drone around 2000 RPM, but I think nearly every Mustang with an aftermarket exhaust does...

Re: Ahhhh the dronnnee!!

My suggestion...

Keep what you Like. If you like the sound, and don't mind the drone than don't make the changes...At least not unless the GF becomes the wife...

As one of the designers of the SSS system you mentioned I know we have a sound that people like, but why change your system if YOU like the sound?

my .02c worth...

Re: Ahhhh the dronnnee!!

I've heard of this sound dampning stuff you can buy (forgot the name.. I local guy from this car club has it and told me about it) that you put in your trunk and around the back seat to cancel out the sound. Sort of like the sound dampening stuff recording studios use I think. This could be another option.

Re: Ahhhh the dronnnee!!

I get the drone from time to time.
But only from the passenger side.
It starts out low, then it starts to grow.
Louder and louder as I begin to cry.
When I turn to the right and realize why.
I stop the car pretty darn quick.
Open the passenger door and gave HER a kick.
As I looked in the mirror when I pulled away.
I wonderer what people would begin to say.

"No worry", I told myself. "She'll be right back".
For now I can enjoy the sound of the MAC!

I personally don't mind my exhaust volume, but someone who does could add dynamat to kill sound and shave weight elsewhere.
