Re: Mach in the shop..engine rattle :(

I'm glad they're fixing it for you. The dealer must've smelled it, too!

I'm not a big down-shifter (is that a word?) but does the manual say you shouldn't?

Re: Mach in the shop..engine rattle :(

IIRC, the manual says not to downshift into 1st above 5 mph and I haven't done that. I do downshift through the gears, but not to 1st.

BTW, I've been driving stick cars since 1979 and have NEVER had a manual tranny go up in smoke on me, and I've treated some of 'em pretty harshly. I've had 'em in older Mustangs, Firebirds, trucks, fwd compacts..you name it...With this car, this is the 3rd problem I've had in 13k miles with the 3650.....and somehow it's "operator error"???? I think not...

Re: Mach in the shop..engine rattle :(

Just caught the end of this thread. After reading the first post i knew it was a bad wrist pin because that is the exact same sound that mine was making 6 months ago. Ford also replaced the engine in mine, though I did not have that kind of trouble getting it done.

Get a good quadrant and a firewall adjuster. The stock setup blows chunks! It's NOT consistant in operation and engages/disengages WAY too low and floor mats make it worse.

She's BAAAAAKKKK!!!

Got the Mach back today...they re-built the tranny and it's smoother than it was before, and waaaay better than the original...no grind into first and no 2-3 lockout..

here's to hoping it's done right...finally!!

Re: Mach in the shop..engine rattle :(

Sigh....the saga continues....Apparently when they put the new motor in, they fugged up my cruise control, so it goes back in tomorrow to have that fixed . Plus, I have some issues with the shifting from 1st-2nd above 5500 rpms. It seems to be a little tougher than it should be, and I've missed second a couple of times now....

This makes the 5th trip to the shop over the tranny in 12 months....I'm really beginning to believe the 3650 is pure junk. I've had my original rebuilt, and now the replacement rebuilt, and I'm still having problems....Maybe I should just trade it in for an '07 GT/CS Vert....

Ummm...no...not really......We tried to tell you the other day that some of your modifications may be interfering with the cruise control....
After removing the bare wire from your radar detector that was jammed into the central junction box at fuse location 17 (which goes guess where?) your cruise control worked just fine. I'm surprised that your brake lamp modification hasn't caused you any grief with that either. I take a lot of pride in my work, it should reflect in the job that you yourself was a clean install of the motor/trans and would appreciate the benefit of the doubt before you come on here and point the finger at our dealership and our technicians.

Re: Mach in the shop..engine rattle :(

OK, we need to talk...face to face. I told Scott yesterday that if my wire to the cruise control was the problem, it was my fault, and I take responsiblility for it. As for the tranny install, you guys have done a wonderful job and I have no problems with you..AS I HAVE STATED MANY TIMES IN THIS THREAD!!! I believe you have done good work and the problems are not your fault. I have faith in what you do because the dealership has treated me well and handled my car with respect.

When it comes to the shifting...As I told Scott...again..the car shifts wonderfully up to higher rpms, and then it just doesn't want to go into 1st. It's not harsh and it doesn't grind..it just doesn't want to go into gear.

Please read EVERYTHING I have posted here. I have done nothing but praise your dealership and everything they have done for me. I have also done my best to keep the dealership name out of the thread so things don't get messy for you.

On edit...on a car that has less than 3k on the trans, doesn't see the track, doesn't get street raced, etc..howinthehell do the 1st gear blocking rings get destroyed? Unlike what you posted before you removed it, I do not downshift into 1st unless the car is at rest. I do downshift through the rest of the gears. I don't powershift the tranny. I'm not on racing slicks...got me. I've been driving manuals for 25 years and NEVER had this kind of problem before.

One thing that does piss me off, and I kind of new it before is you misrepresenting where you are from...Central PA is a long way from VA....

Naw, were all newbs at shifting trannies. I've only been driving manuals for 25 years, so I'm still a rookie....

BTW sb93gt50 and I have talked, and things are fine.....even if his car is SLOW!!!!!!! j/k

The cruise control issue turned out to be my fault, and not his. As I said before, and I'll say again, I have full faith in his ability to work on the cars, as well as the support I've gotten from the dealership. That was never a question.

As for the tranny issue, it may be a problem with the clutch release point. I have a FRPP clutch and aluminum flywheel, and the release point is low. A quadrant and firewall adjuster may be in order, like both sb93gt50 and M1M said...

Yeah I know it's slow... this is the look I get when they see the tailights though....

Did you get a chance to find that quadrant yet? I saw it on the Steeda site for about 40 bucks...Look at the write up under it...it almost descibes what is happening to a tee I think.....

Re: Mach in the shop..engine rattle :(

Welp, thought I would add an update to this since it was kinda left hanging. After having a new motor and new tranny put in, I still had the lockout shifting problem. I threw out the factory adjustable quadrant and put in a Fiore Firewall Adjuster and Quadrant set, and everything has been fine since. The new motor has performed quite nicely so far, so here's hoping I continue to have a smooth running Mach!
