how can you tell if a clutch disc is blown?

without taking the tranny out that is... I think i may have ridden it a bit too long last night during a burnout attempt...

also, i'm pretty sure my quadrant/firewall adjuster piece is gone... clutch wouldn't disengage fully last night at all... missed every gear possible, every time...

at fun ford weekend, Mach1marauder is in trouble - the 16 second terror will take him out!

Sounds like there may be something else going on. Riding the clutch would cause it to glaze from the heat caused by the slipage. In turn causing the clutch to slip and you would smell it. If it is not disengaging something may be bound, the slave cylinder is not working properly, clutch master cylinder is failing, or the system needs bled. Just some thoughts.

the disengaging i'm suspecting is the quadrant. the reason i'm thinking the disc may be gone is it not being smooth anymore, it's very irregular on takeoff (normal low speed/accel takeoff, it's fine if i slip it out more, or take off more aggressive). it all has less than 1k miles on it though so who knows... it may be glazed indeed, didn't think about that...

FYI: it's a cable operated clutch in the mustang, so no master/slave cylinders, hydraulic fluid, etc.

Correcto, Hawk.

Mine has been feeling "spongy" lately and I've been wondering if it is about to go out...

Naw I doubt it, since you only drive your car to the grocery on saturdays, and never rev beyond 2500...
