Stripe Delete

I saw a photo in the member's gallery of a black Mach1 that looked like it did NOT have hood and body stripes. Is there a way to order without the stripe? Does anyone have more informatin?

Thanks,
Tom

All Mach 1's are supposed to come with the stripes as part of the package. That black one was either a factory screw-up, or the dealer purposely removed the stripes. I don't know if it was ever determined which it was?? There is no stripe delete as far as we know!

I'M SURE THE STRIPES WERE THERE. I SAW ONE IN PERSON AT A DEALER LAST MONTH AND THE STRIPES WERE NOT VISIBLE UNTIL YOU GOT RIGHT UP TO THE CAR. I THINK ON THE BLACK THEY SHOULD HAVE MADE THE STRIPE A DIFFERENT COLOR. BLACK ON BLACK JUST DOESN'T WORK.

You're right, they should have gone with the silver, like they did with the original Mach 1s.

That's true...the 66 GT350H was a classic look.

The original Mach 1's (69/70) never had silver stripes. The 71-73 did, as well as black stripes. The '69's had either black, red, or gold reflective 3M side and rear stripes as well as a black hood. There was a hood paint delete option as well. For 70, the most common color for the hood and rear stripe was plack, with a few cars getting white. Those cars are very rare, and have been spotted on Black Jade, Black, and Orange cars. There may have been others, but those are all I've had any experience with.
Ford should have at least offered the side striped in different colors, or had them done in teh 3M reflective material...for safety reasons, of course!

Sorry, Falcon, I wasn't clear enough in what I meant. You're right, of course (aren't you always? ). When I say "original" I'm including all Machs 69-73 (but not the 74-78...they had their place and time, and they kept the line alive, but they weren't real Mustangs -- they had 13 inches tires ferchrissakes). And I mention the silver because I thought they were the best alternative to black from those years.

I tend not to differentiate between the 69/70 and 71-73 incarnations of the Mach 1. But that's just me...

And, of course, I mention the GT350H because I feel it's the best looking application of a gold stripe kit on a black car. Again, just me...

OH, no flames intended. And boy when I screw up it is usually a doozy. Just want to keep everybody straight, since there were so many different color/stripe combos, depending on years. Even the mighty Mustang II Mach 1's, with their...standard...V-6...engines, sigh... I'm right with you on the GT-350H, but I'd have to say my secong favorite is a '69 Mach 1 in black with red side stripes...too cool. Though the white '69's with the red stripes was pretty awesome also!

Ya, they should have just went ahead and made all of the stripes reflective. Especially on the Black one.

There has been at least one report here from someone personally seeing a black Mach I roll off the truck without any stripes. So, it isn't that dealers are always to blame (though they might be for some).

There was also a member here who had only a partial stripe on their hood.

One member has "Cobra" logo'ed front brakes, and another member has the "Cobra" logo'ed front brake on just one side.

It seems the quality control guy is having a tough time verifying the stripes are correctly there, and the brakes have the right "logo", when a Mach I rolls off the line. I mean, it should not be all that difficult for this guy to tell that the Mustang they are inspecting is a Mach I model (because of the unique shaker).

At Ford, quality always someone else's job 1.

There was a new post today, with a picture of a 'fresh off the truck' Mach 1 that was delivered with no stripes. This seems to be unique to black cars, and have cropped up in the past as well. There is no stripe delete option, these cars just pop up with no stripes. I hope somebody is documenting these cars and keeping track of other 'unique' cars, like the Cobra caliper cars that have been mentioned.
