Need some pulley advice - Eaton Swap
Here's my dilemma -
I purchased a complete Eaton swap for my 2003 Mach 1 automatic car. The kit has a stage 4 Steggy ported blower. 2.76 upper pulley Metco 4 pound lower pulley ring and hub. I want to put this kit on my car and utilize the really cool Metco hub. Since my engine is stock, I would like to keep the boost around 10 pounds or less. Do you think I can keep the 2.76 upper pulley but run the Metco underdrive lower pulley ring (that they offer for the Whipple and Kennebell cars)? The largest upper they make is a 3.0. If I were to use that and the underdrive pulley ring, would that get me to my goal? I spoke to a guy at Metco and he would not give me an exact figure on how much boost it would make like that. He said each car is different and since I have long tube headers along with the ported blower, it may show less boost. I appreciate any help! Ryan

Sounds like you're on the right track. The guy at Metco is right. There's too many variables to give an exact answer. If you want to keep the Metco look you'll probably need the 3.0" upper and under drive crank. But I think you'll still be over 10psi. Your tuner can always back the timing off as well.

Re: Need some pulley advice - Eaton Swap
I would plug the dimensions (blower and lower) into an rpm calculator and try to find a combo that spins it close to what the bone stock Cobra setup spins. There has to be a pd blower rpm calculator somewhere online.
Trying to match boost from reading other peoples combos has too many variables. But the raw math never fails. Or keep it with the 2.76 and 4lb lower and make 600 with an eaton for one pull From another post about calculating for a whipple "You can calculate blower rpm by dividing the diameter of the crank by the diameter of the blower pulley and multiplying by max rpm. (crank/blower) x rpm. Anyone feel free to correct this if im wrong.Using a stock lower diameter of 7.5” and a pulley choice of 3.0” you get a ratio of 2.5. 2.5 multiplied with a theoretical max rpm of 6500 = 16250 rpm. Still 11% headroom left before tapping the 18000 manufactured limit. "

Underdrive lower pulley from metco = 6.55" Largest metco upper pulley = 3.0" 2.18 X 6,200 rpms = 13,516 rpm. Now what would you figure the boost is at that rpm? Oh and thanks for the help/advice! Don't wanna waste money on the underdrive pulley and upper if I should just buy a stock size lower pulley ring from metco and then install a 3.4 or 3.6 stock upper pulley. Ryan

Re: Need some pulley advice - Eaton Swap
Stock termi
3.65 upper 7.5 lower Blower rpm at 6500 = 13,356 Metco 3.0 upper 6.55 lower Blower rpm at 6500 = 14,192 3.4 Termi 3.4 upper 7.5 lower Blower rpm at 6500 = 14,338 Seems like most make ~7-8lbs on the stock termi setup. That metco underdrive will put you close to what a 3.4 pulley and stock lower puts out, and those are good for ~8-9lbs. Ported blower should be a little more efficient so I'm guessing ~9-10lbs is a safe bet for sea level if you run that metco underdrive and 3.0.

Re: Need some pulley advice - Eaton Swap
Just for fun
Current pulley combo 2.76 upper 8.6 (4lb lower) Blower rpm at 6,500 = 20,254

Re: Need some pulley advice - Eaton Swap
Thanks!
That helps make up my mind. Trying to find a stock 3.4 or a 3.6 pulley is difficult! I'll contact Metco and get the underdrive pulley and the 3.0 upper! Let's see what this 40K mile auto Mach 1 can do!!!!

Re: Need some pulley advice - Eaton Swap
Won't be long now!!!
Picked up an 03 Cobra fuel tank last weekend. Just gotta get a new hat/pumps for return setup, then it's Eaton swap time!

Re: Need some pulley advice - Eaton Swap
Not yet! I wish!
Haven't gotten around to swapping it over yet! Both of my trucks needed attention the last 2 weeks, so I got side-tracked! Hope to start on this soon. Picked up the 03 cobra gas tank, just waiting on the return fuel system setup and I'll be ready. Ryan

Re: Need some pulley advice - Eaton Swap
Are you running a Cobra balancer and timing cover? I have aftermarket tensioner and alternator brackets so I shouldn't need a Cobra timing cover (I hope). But I also have the Metco lower setup and I'm hoping the Cobra balancer I just got will work with my Mach 1 timing cover. It will be more apparent when I get things apart but I am wondering if you or anyone else sees any reason that won't work.

Re: Need some pulley advice - Eaton Swap
Been really SLOW with progress! Haha!
Caught a sinus infection over the Christmas and had to work this entire week (off 1/1). Ordered some new intake and supercharger gaskets prior to ripping the stock Mach stuff off. Ordered my Lethal Budget return style fuel system before Christmas, but it did not ship yet (expect by 1/5). I did mount my AFCO heat exchanger and the intercooler pump with lines. Tried to use the coolant reservoir that came with my kit, but don't want to hack up the underside of my hood to make it fit. So either going stock or with the Canton replacement.

Re: Need some pulley advice - Eaton Swap
I see you're in Byram, MS! I did work out there recently with a contractor called McInnis Electric for Mississippi DOT. We put in the Highway Advisory Radios (HAR) and Road Weather Information Stations (RWIS) around the state.
With my 6.5" lower, headers, and offroad prochamber, I'm hoping to keep the boost under 11 pounds. Ryan

Re: Need some pulley advice - Eaton Swap
Those pics are just what I needed right now. I'm installing a GT500 H/E on mine and with some adjustments to the brackets it should come out similarly.

It's funny, while doing work out there, some blue mustang came by hauling ***. It was about 1/8 mile away from me where I was standing, but it sounded great and I think the guy redlined 1st thru 4th. Haha. I could not tell if it was a Mach 1, but it was turning some rpm's! Ryan
