Re: Mecum WTF

It’s all in the age of the car. In 5 to 10 years these cars will start to go up in value. 99-04 cars haven’t hit rock bottom yet.

I bought a Bullitt in 2001 and wanted a Mach 1 but wasn’t willing to sell the Bullitt to get one. And I couldn’t afford a second Mustang payment. I recently started looking for an automatic 5.0 Fox for my mom. I’m tired of dealing with her 24 year old Lexus and it’s expensive, complicated repairs. She had an 88 LX 4 cyclinder back in the day and knew she was comfortable driving it.

I ended up looking at an 88 5.0 that had 153k. It had new seat covers, engine and transmission were rebuilt. It was decent. Paint looked ok at 15 feet but it was a repaint and not a very good one. Guy just wouldn’t come off the price of $9500 at all. I wasn’t feeling it anyway. 87-93 Fox bodies are way overpriced right now because guys who had them and got rid of them or always wanted one but never got one are at the age they probably have disposable income. Most are clapped out so nice ones are pretty sought after.

I ended up buying a 2003 DSG automatic for $5k. It has 130k miles and it’s not perfect but it’s nicer than that 88 5.0 at about half the price. Just way more car. That’s just the way automotive trends go. Yeah, it sucks owning a car and watching values fall but it’s just the way it works. It’s a buyer’s market on them right now.

Same! Between buying my car last year and then putting a procharger on it I could have very easily been in an 03-04 Cobra making more power, but it would not have been a Mach 1. Just the shaker and the solid rear axle were enough to sway me away from the Cobra.

Re: Mecum WTF

These do have a great deal of nostalgia and character. I bought my first one brand new at the end of the 04 build and at that time you could practically buy a Cobra for the exact same money.
But the Cobra had no shaker and just did not scratch my itch.
Hood stripe very reminiscent of both a 69/70 Mach or even an 85/86 GT.
A dealer near me had 2 mystic convertibles and a red/burgundy hardtop Cobra and no Mach and I had to take the last Mach I could find in my state that had under 10 miles on it and it wasn’t that easy to find.
Dealer idiot told me he had an orange coming in and I waited but then he finally got it in and it was a different color and I bought it right off the truck.

Was mid 2004
