Question procharger with 8 rib, hitting alternator?

anyone else run into this?

there doesnt really seem to be any adjustment in the alternator itself that Im aware of. Im using the spacer setup provided in the GI JOE kit. I tried adding a washer to the spacers that go between the bracket and the timing cover but it didnt seem to do much.

the pulley is just barely touching one rib on the alternator. Im sure I could pull the head unit back off and file that the ribs down a bit but Id like to make that a last resort, I hate being able to see things that have been cut on or ground down like that...although it should be pretty discreet with the blower and shaker.

When I was in there to trim the valve cover to clear my pulley I went ahead an wizzed down the face of the alternator to be sure I'd have no issues. Can't see it, plus I'd rather that than have a belt rubbing problem.

ya the valve covers were clearanced for the stock 4" pulley, clears the 3.5 just fine...guess ill just file the **** down and be done with it, then its on to opening up the fender to fit the power pipe

hard to say...i bought shake n bake, swapped all the stuff I wanted into my car, put all my stock stuff into that car and sold it. I figure I had 7-8k tied up in shake n bake after selling it but I got a ton of parts out of it...aluminator long block, cams, valve springs, full exhaust, tubular k member, magnum t56, built rear end, fully ported intake, fore fuel rails, moroso oil pan, misc suspension and other parts. When I added it up all the parts on that car would have been over 20grand buying them new, it all had ~10k miles on it when I bought it

Ahhh ok.. I'm looking into motor options for my Mach so I can crank up the boost.

Re: procharger with 8 rib, hitting alternator?

I'm trying a different approach. Before I go and clearance the valve cover and alternator, I'm gonna have the pulley cut down. So we'll see how that works. I'm hoping it'll decrease the amount of material I need to remove from the alternator and/or the valve cover.

I did the same thing on the IW balancer. So only needed to clearance the crank sensor boss a little bit.

Re: procharger with 8 rib, hitting alternator?

Had the pulley cut today. Looks good. I mirrored the 6 rib 3.6" pulley that I had on the car last year. There is no rear flange. So I simply had the rear flange removed. Hopefully Friday I can put it on the blower and see how it fits. If there's any additional clearancing that needs to be done, I hope it's minimal.

By the way, this is a 4" 8 rib pulley.

Re: procharger with 8 rib, hitting alternator?

Update:

We got the blower on and aligned. Here's the clearance of pulley to alternator. This is an 8 rib, 4" pulley on a D1. Not necessary to clearance alternator, front cover bolt or valve cover.

Re: procharger with 8 rib, hitting alternator?

looks good!

I dunno what I did when just dicking around with it but I finally got everything fully bolted up and its sitting perfectly clear of the alternator (3.5" pulley)
