Future Dodge Challenger FORD WAKE THE HECK UP!!!
http://autoweek.com/news.cms?newsId=103629
If, as autoweek reports, this is a true concept for the upcoming Dodge Challenger, the Mustang will truly see some competition. If Dodge goes ahead and stays true to this "concept", then the Mustang will be outpowered as usual. Not to go off on a tangent... but WTF ...the **** GT should have the 5.4 V8....screw this 4.6 small displacement crap....it can only go so far! (i mean, they are great for our machs etc...but look what's coming out!) you've got insane 6.0 litre gtos.......and if this challenger comes along with a 425 hp 6.1 hemi , 6 speed, and a predicted curb weight of around 3500 lbs....even the mightly GT500 will be spanked stock for stock!!!! THERE IS NO REPLACEMENT FOR DISPLACEMENT.....SO FORD....LET'S SEE SOME!!! arg! -paul

Re: Future Dodge Challenger FORD WAKE THE HECK UP!!!
lol screw turbo or forced induction lol....i think i'm loosing my mind!!!
and to correct my original post!! at SEMA and to be in the upcoming challenger concept is a 6.4 hemi NOT a 6.1 they upped the displacement again!!! the engine produces 510 hp and 550 tq..... THAT is what i want from ford!!! 392 cubic inches of pain and destruction!!! ****!!! imagine an SRT'd version of that engine!!! add on lt headers and tuning and u have a naturally aspirated 600 + possibility!! FORD! THAT IS WHAT I WANT power without using the 4 banger route of forced induction!!! make future vehicles that have at least 351's in them!!! lol!!! paul

Re: Future Dodge Challenger FORD WAKE THE HECK UP!!!
A Mustang is a Mustang is a Mustang, it's not meant to be the "win at all cost car" it is what it is. The other companies only wish they had a car as sucessful as the Mustang bread with it's long heritage.
With the other cars, you may get this and you may get that, but you'll pay somewhere down the line, cost, lack of looks, etc. The Mustangs is a car for all people, the others target specific audiences and will sell only a fraction of the cars compared to the Mustang. lastly, in the case of the GTO, it takes 6 Litres to do what we do with 4. I'll sleep in peace tonight, no worries, Michael

I must say, Dodge may hit a home run with this new challenger. And yes, an SRT'd model would be an animal. I like it. I like it alot.

Re: Future Dodge Challenger FORD WAKE THE HECK UP!!!
Yeah, so what - the car goes faster. But pound for pound, how much does it cost?
The Corvette is faster; It's also three times as much as the Mustang. If this car has 25% more horsepower then my Mach 1 and costs $10k more..... What's the point? |

Re: Future Dodge Challenger FORD WAKE THE HECK UP!!!
As far as the engine questions are concerned...Ford killed that off some months ago when it axed the "Hurricane" engine project. It was a 6.0 litre (approx.) engine that was designed to go head to head with the Hemi and larger Vortec GM engines. The bean counters killed it off due to Fords shakey financial ground. Too bad they didn't have the forsight to realized that this is just what the blue oval boys need to get on solid ground, not only with a sronger truck engine, but also with the muscle car application. Now, if they'd also do a sedan (i.e. 300C, and Charger) with the same grunt, Fords star would be shining much brighter on the sales front...

Re: Future Dodge Challenger FORD WAKE THE HECK UP!!!
Ford has been doing a lot with less displacement, the 5.0 liter engine held there own. And now with even less the 4.6 gives more HP then the 5.0 had ever dreamed of from the factory. Somehow I think the 5.4 from SVT will take care of the new hemi and the next hemi....

Re: Future Dodge Challenger FORD WAKE THE HECK UP!!!
True to a degree, but SVT has to resort to using a supercharger on nearly all of its products (Cobra, Lightning, GT)to achieve their high numbers, while so many of its competitors use either displacement or volumetric efficiency to get the power needed to do the job at hand. The ability to get respectable numbers without resorting to super- or turbo-charging would be more desirable for packaging and reliability purposes...and then you can put a blower on it if you want.

Without jumping on my own soapbox, I am just going to agree with this post. These newer fly by night models coming out will never outsell Ford's mighty Mustang...they were killed off before, they will be again.

Re: Future Dodge Challenger FORD WAKE THE HECK UP!!!
Meh, I never did like the challengers of old, and this one is no different. The front looks rather blah. I dont care if it has 900 hp the looks still make a difference to me, and thats where the mustang shines. Great looks, great sound, great power, great speed, great price. Thats what matters to me, the mustang has all these, in my opinion, that challenger does not.

Re: Future Dodge Challenger FORD WAKE THE HECK UP!!!
That "picture" does nothing for me. Oh, BTW, where has Dodge been with their two door Pony car for the past 20 years +?? (The Crossfire doesn't count). Hard to believe some of you would "jump ship" so quickly over a PICTURE?? It looks like DODGE is the one who FINALLY woke up! They've got a lot of catching up to do in that segment. Of course with all of you guys going GaGa over this picture, it may not take them as long.

It's probaly not gonna look anything like that. They screwed up the other concept on the Charger as far as I'm concerned. Hip Hurrah for Dodge.

I'll stick with my puny displacement 4.6 liter Mach that gets 19mpg in city driving WITH 4.10's. I don't have any idea what it gets on the hiway, but I'll bet it does tons better that that "insane 6.0 liter GTO"!!

Re: Future Dodge Challenger FORD WAKE THE HECK UP!!!
As far as I'm concerned... '03/'04 Cobra with forged rods and pistons and and a supercharger with UNGODLY potential is better than any NA motor GM or Dodge has put out. Just a hint at what the new GT500 is going to be capable of.

I'm not jumping ship -- I've been obsessesed with Vanishing Point since elementary school.
Try finding a 1970 Challenger for a reasonable price that isn't a piece of junk. Chris
