Tokico Shock-Are they Right?

I am going to upgrade the shocks on my '03 Mach and found some Tokico Illuminas for a good price. It has been lowered 2" with Eibach springs. Are these what you guys would recommend or should I hold off for something else.

Re: Tokico Shock-Are they Right?

Tokico's are nice we have them as stock shocks Illumina's are good for lowered cars and give you some adjustments. I for one am going with Tokico D spec's for the technology and wide range of adjustment for my car. I plan to do some road racing. There are many good shocks and strut combo's for our cars just let us know what youyr plans are and we can help with sugestions.

Re: Tokico Shock-Are they Right?

I went with Illumina's for my lowered setup with H&R Supersports. They are 5 way adjustable and I really like them. I think I paid around $425 total from a vendor on Ebay.

Re: Tokico Shock-Are they Right?

I had the Illumina's on my Mach for about two weeks before swicthing them out for Koni Adjustables. Ilumina's are cheap crappy shocks with horrible rebound damping.

I have now driven Mach's with all there set-ups, Tokico, Koni and Bilstiens.
By leaps and bounds the Bilstiens are the best for street and occaisional track days.

I think people like Illumina's so well becuase the have little to know expierience with aftermarket suspension and it is an improvement over stock, but just barely.

Re: Tokico Shock-Are they Right?

There are many fine companies that make suspension parts you just need to figure out how your going to drive the Mach then try to find the best match. I like Evolutions suspension parts since they think out side the box plus they race what they sell.

Re: Tokico Shock-Are they Right?

I switched my rear illuminas for the koni yellows and the koni's are far superior.

Re: Tokico Shock-Are they Right?

Go KONI's they are way better. The Tokico's seem very nice because they are better then the stock Tokico's. They are good out of the box, but will not hold up in the long run. I race AUTOCROSS and hve run both. The bill's do not adjust is why I run KONI single adjustable no need to the doubles.

Re: Tokico Shock-Are they Right?

I have the Bilstein hd's on my Mach and absolutely love them. I didn't go with adjustables because I have no need.

My days at the track are done with my car. I'll let everyone else beat theirs up at the track while I keep mine looking nice and purdy over the next 30 years.

Re: Tokico Shock-Are they Right?

Tokico has a very good shock combination with the Illumina's. They are designed for a high performance street and very mild track use such as autocross. They are by no means a track strut and shock combo unless you consider the D-Spec. The thing you need to ask yourself is what you are using the car for. If you are going to see a lot of track use and decide you are going to run a stiffer spring than the Eibach's you will need a stronger shock. Since you have lowered your vehicle two inches we suggest to our customers to use the 1987-1993 front struts whether it be the Tokico's or Koni's as the strut is shorter by 1". Make sure you run the 1994-04 rear shocks in all applications as they have the built in progressive bumpstops.
