Get a compliment? Post it!

Took the Mach out this morning while it was still "cool" outside and I'm sitting at a red light when a guy that looked to be in his mid 20's in a black cts inches up next to me to roll down his window and say "**** man, nice car." I gave him a thumbs up and told him thanks before the light went green and we parted. It was a nice way to start off a cruise.

It seems like something of this nature happens nearly every time I drive the car, so I know it's happening to a lot of you guys too. Let's hear some stories!

Re: Get a compliment? Post it!

I get a compliment once or twice a year. I say thanks and that's it. I know their's a 99% chance they know nothing about an '03-'04 Mach 1 so why waste my breath.

The best one I heard was I started my Mach and a guy asked if I had a 428 under the hood.

Re: Get a compliment? Post it!

I was at the Orlando Ace Cafe Mustang meet up last weekend. I had lots of complements from young guys to adults. I spoke with a nice couple that turn out to be previous owners of three Mach 1’s. They were surprised that I was the original owner.

My favorite compliments are the ones I get about how she sounds. I get maybe two or three of those a year. I’ll drive my Mach to work on really nice days. A few weeks ago, I was on my way home and happened to look in my mirror and I see this larger sedan weaving through traffic. I’m like, I need to prepare for this crazy driver in case he swerves in front of me, etc. He catches up to me by the next stop light and rolls his window down and yells “I love the way it sounds!” And gives me a thumbs up. He was just speeding up to tell me how he liked my exhaust note lol. That was really cool to see and hear.

Re: Get a compliment? Post it!

After giving the 9 to 5ers time to get to work this morning I decided to get the Mach out again. Cruised for about an hour before the sun began to remind me we're in July and approaching midday. Back to homebase we go. As I was pulling back into mi casa, a guy in his late 20s- early 30s pulls along side of me in the street in a contractor's panel van and tells me "those wheels look really good on there!". I responded with the thumbs up and a "thanks man, 'preciate it!".

The Mach does something to people. They gravitate to it uncontrollably.

My Mach is a sight for sore eyes now....the paint is pretty beat up....but before it went to sh!t, I'd occasionally get compliments.

Need to get her painted soon :/

Everytime it comes out the barn, (when not overheating, yea, year later still chasing that issue), I get stares, mainly that Whipple whine and those worn in Magnaflow shorts minus cats...seems everyone goats me constantly to roll in the throttle, Ford hit it right with this car, still looks timely.

Re: Get a compliment? Post it!

I get looks like: "what kind of Mustang is that"?

And now that I took off the hood decal (was evidently improperly installed, as it was bubbling along the edges and came right off without a hair dryer) and gonna leave it off for a while...kinda like the look...will be interesting.

BTW, the glue under those things leaves a mess, but it did clean up and the paint polished out nicely.

Re: Get a compliment? Post it!

I guess the best compliment I've gotten was a month ago or so when I found a new Coyote 5.0 and a new Hemi 392 doing stop light pulls on each other and I decided to jump in and see if I could even keep up. The owner of the new 5.0 pulled up next to me a little later in the night and asked if my car had a supercharger on it. Nope, she's 99% stock. He said, "That's bad a$$!"

About the only compliments I get are when I show people what she’ll look like when I’m done with the restoration. Most of the time it’s, “I can’t wait to see it when it’s finished.” Now if it’s genuine or just out of politeness is the question.

Pick your poison.

Re: Get a compliment? Post it!

A friend of my brother was at a car show with my brother and me. He has a bunch of cool cars (Hellcat, Shelby Mustang, 68 Camaro) and he was really impressed with my Mach 1. He loved the exhaust sound with the Bassani catback and complimented the tiered hood and how cool it looked with the shaker hood. Said that if I ever sold it, it would sell fast.

The guy judging the cars said it was a beautiful car.

This was my first car show. Got a plaque, but then again most people who entered got one. It was a low key kind of show. It was just fun being there and seeing people check out the Mach 1.

This car still turns heads like crazy (when I drive it). You just don't see them around here anymore. I get compliments frequently at gas stations. Add the turbo and it's an ultra-rare combination here.

Re: Get a compliment? Post it!

I had a compliment at Kroger parking lot, guy said he loved everything I did with the car but I should have stopped before I cut the hole in the middle of the hood, he said something to the effect that was an old school scoop from the 60s.... went on and on about why old parts should be on new cars... I politely thanked him, opened the cutout and started the beast and rolled out.

Good times, but I have had several other comments but this is one I can never forget.

Yeah I'm surprised how many (non-car) people think I also cut the hood and added the shaker.

He'd be shocked if you told him the story about how Ford employees found the mold they used in the 1960s to make the hood scoops with and used that exact tooling to make the hood scoop on your car.

Re: Get a compliment? Post it!

Several years ago I was at a traffic light. A gentleman passing buy on a bicycle said "Man that thing sounds nice its really cool how the blower is sticking out of the hood. Man she must fly."
I said it absolutely does fly. Didn't want to take the time to explain the shaker scoop.

I've had similar comments because people don't know the car. A group of kids on skateboards were giving me some grief about dressing up the 6 banger Stang. I laughed and said nice skateboard dude, you get good mileage?

Re: Get a compliment? Post it!

I was out again this morning and ran into a red s550 that wanted to see what Melba Toast was packin'. Once we got into some clean air, I obliged him with a quick 5+ car gapping and then slowed back down to what I thought would be a safe speed had we still been in the 'states. He caught up to me, I looked over and gave the thumbs up and he rolled down his window to say he likes how my car sounds and likes my model. I wasnt sure if he knew what he was looking at, but nonetheless, I returned the compliments. His car sounded deep and clean and had some cool looking louvers on the back glass. I quickly asked what he had done and he replied "just cold air and exhaust."

The 5 liter turned and went another direction and I kept on the pkwy some more. I got to the next light and was sitting there when the car next to me gave a quick honk. I looked over and realized it was one of the cars that was behind us when we made our pull. Expecting to get a scolding of some sort, I was surprised and relieved to see it was a man and woman and they were congratulating me on the win!

Re: Get a compliment? Post it!

I was out again today taking advantage of the sunshine (for the first time it seems like in a month) when I noticed as I was pulling away from a light that the car on my left was pacing me. At this point I'm in second gear at about 30mph, so I hold the gear while hoping it's someone else wanting to mess around. I looked over to see a couple guys in a small black sedan with the windows down giving me the . I returned the gesture, grabbed ahold of third gear and kept cruising.

Re: Get a compliment? Post it!

Our (really my son's car...I drive his old 94GT) 04 Stealth Black Mach 1 rarely gets noticed as it is 100% stock...only after a fresh detail usually do I get a thumbs up or other compliment. Most folks don't really look at it & think it is just a normal Mustang...but a few realize it is pretty special & we appreciate their opinions highly. A very very few will KNOW this is a rare car & really engage us in conversation. They are the fun ones.

On the other hand I have modded my son's old GT to be my car & I cannot drive anywhere without getting some reactions! Not bragging just that the White & Blue stand out more than Stealth Black ever does so everyone notices it.. I invented a new term because of the 94,... TPM's or Thumbs per mile. (Middle fingers are a minus! ☺) On an average day I get about 1-2.5 thumbs per mile in the 94 GT LOL...and no tickets so far!

I once pulled into my bank in the GT and a guy got out of his car to tell me he hates Mustangs but he liked mine a lot...he was a chevy guy and wouldn't stop talking about how this was the first Ford he really really liked! I think he was more amazed at himself than anything, he wanted to know every detail of my mods and so on...LOL, made my day.

Then I had a young lady in a honda tuner car at a car show pick my car as the best one to go home in! Boy was her boyfriend mad I got the award! ☺
