2012 Boss 302 - POST all info here.

Expect an official annoucement in less than two weeks from Ford, but this is a link to an accidental announcement for the upcoming street version of the long anticipated Boss 302 Mustang. If the price is as announced, you may have to get the he!! out of my way to the dealership...

(See post #49)

Around $30,000? I seriously doubt that. Even if it comes in just south of $40,000, the dealers will have a field day with their market adjusted pricing.

Since the SPJ had a completely gone through motor, that won't be the issue here. An updated intake is what I've heard is going to be the only underhood improvement, along with the requesite tuning. I expect to see Brembos, but at least as an option that's not going to be a big hit in the wallet. Some decals, and bespoke wheels will tack a bit more on to the price tag. So far, I'm not seeing $30k in updates. We'll see in a bit over a week....

John Clor passed this along to. Thought those who are interested in this might find it...interesting?

Hello Ford Performance Group Car Club Principals!

Please pass this along to your club members!

We have a great event in store at the Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion on August 13, and we want everyone to be there.

It will be a memorable day for Ford and Mustang enthusiasts! (And no, I cannot say more than the invitation says … except, "It's a biggie. You'll see great cars and great people!")

Thanks!

Awesome! After my dad drove my Mach 1 a couple times, he was kinda sad and said if ford decided to re-release a Mach 1 or Boss he'd have to buy one. I'll show him this tomorrow and see what he has to say hahahaha

Re: 2012 Boss 302

You can barely find a base 2011 GT for under $30k so I think that number is a load of crap as it pertains to MSRP. It's not the halo Mustang as that's still the GT500 so I don't think the $30k is an add-on number either but I predict the MSRP will be much closer to $40k to split the difference between the GT and the Shelby (probably $39,999 so they can say it's in the $30k price range lol).

they seemed to have a huge list as far as suspension goes though....anyhow, I was just trying to make sense of the $30k number he said....its NOT gonna be $30k, so the only other alternative is $30k on top of a base GT.

The new 2011 roush's are $45k....and I think a limited Boss 302 should peak that.

maybe its $30k on top of the cheapest mustang you can get? a stripped v6? that would be $22k + $30k = $52k....

I dunno...but IM EXCITED!!!!!

Now, if they'll do a 'Boss only' Grabber Green, I'd be way hooked!

Re: 2012 Boss 302

Mine would be Grabber Orange...hoping the price might be reasonable and the feature content distinct enough.

I still like the Parnelli Jones/Saleen car - what a cool interpretation.

Re: 2012 Boss 302

Well there was some announcement where the guy (cant remember his name) was talking about new Mustangs and he said that he couldn't tell anyone what it was -- but that he could give a hint:

At that time, a Boss 302 drove across the stage from 1969/1970.

He then said, "Is that subtle enough?"

Re: 2012 Boss 302

I am really seeing this going in the direction of the Cobra R.
I think its going to be a level over the GT500...

A base GT 500 is 48k A Base GT is 29,600 this is the BASE CAR which we all know are few and far you can option a 6 speed manaul GT coupe to 42k with not even every option checked make it a convertable and we are looking at 46k add a california special package or a auto trans it all adds up......

The HP difference is about 125 hp between the GT and the GT500 and its not hard to get the new 5.0 gt to push another 50 to 75 hp... and still be NA....
and for the most part under warrenty.

I am just not seeing the room between the 2 cars for something in the middle like out machs were to the Cobra and the GT.

Also the cobra R came out in 2000 right after the body change from 98 to the 99 to 04 body we are only on the second year of the latest body change the mach came out in 03 and 04 the end of the run to stir up interest in a car with a 4 year old body style.

Oh and for the most part ill bet a GT with the upgraded suspention option and the bembo package would run CIRCLES around the cobra R ....

So I am really seeing this as the next generation of the cobra R.........

UNLESS FORD gets smart and does this....................

The boss would be a stripped no option car remove the sound deadning crap and all of the comfert features for cost and weight savings no back seat thow in some racing seats improve the suspention and brakes do some simple tuning mods with some exhust and intake work done maybe a factory roll bar.... ..... Remember the boss is the road race car was never a 1\4 mile car... put a shaker hood on it and a nice set of boss stripes some gear options cool set of wheels and sell it for 38k

I agree with most of that, but I would like to see it closer to it's street heritage than it's racing heritage

Re: 2012 Boss 302

There is already a race Boss 302, much like there was in '69/'70, so that's pretty much covered. I would expect a street Boss to be similarly track oriented, but with all of the modern refinements. Do also remember that you could get a Boss with back then with everything except A/C and auto tranny. Even the Drag Pak could be had, and that was an obvious 1/4 mile call out. I drove a friends 3.91 locker equipped Boss and it was...memorable.
I hope the new one will be (sorry GT/CS guys) available with the 'right' features or options; Brembos, deep gears, handling upgrade and cool tire/wheels ( I really dont like the race Boss/GT500 FRPP wheels), maybe even a Magnum style wheel (now where have I seen those before?).
And Grabber Colors!

I thought the same thing when I read the comments above saying "its going to be like the Cobra R", but that's what the Boss 302R is. The whole point of the "street" Boss is to put a race inspired car into the hands of the average joe (that happens to have $40k plus)

I for one love the wheels on the Boss 302R. They're made by BBS if I'm not mistaken, and I'll try to pull up the link to back it up.

Edit: Found the link http://www.rehagenracingproducts.com...&categoryId=74

Personally, I'd rather have a classic boss than a new one. Too much fiberglass for me.

Re: 2012 Boss 302

I would love a classic Boss as well, but like the Shelbys and Boss 9s and other vintage and desirable Mustangs their prices have gotten into the stupid realm. As it would have to be a DD for me, the lack of A/C and modern suspension and driveline make a new Boss a much more attractive idea for me. If I had the money, a place to properly work on and store an original Boss 302, it would be on my short list of must do things.
